Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Hybrid work

Hybrid work should be evaluated on outcomes and deliverables, not solely on days in office or commute distance. If managers are meeting their commitments and supporting their teams effectively, a 2-day in-office cadence can be reasonable under current policy. Where concerns exist, they’re best addressed through documented feedback via HR or leadership channels, rather than informal assumptions. Let’s keep the focus on accountability and results for everyone, at every level.

People work from out of state to visit family for a month and don’t take any vacation days. How in the world are they allowed to do this?

No one has been let go for not coming in. If you don’t want to come in then don’t. Many VPs never report to the office even when they are close by they can’t fire you for it.

@OP The more you show Verizon how much you don’t want to go to office. The more likely they will make you return. That’s how this current regime operates

It depends on the business unit right? If you’re an individual contributor responsible for delivering code or infrastructure with teams spread out across the states and oceans. What tangible benefit does coming to the office provide? You’re not collaborating with anyone in person. You’re just joining conference calls with people from all over. In this example being required to come in at all feels punitive more than functional. I have to come in and use VZ’s monitors, and hear everyone around me who is also on conference calls talking to people from all over? There is no functional purpose for that. If you work on a strategy team and your whole team sits in the same office I suppose that has some utility. However why are we even paying people to make slides in 2026, what value does that deliver? If there is no functional reason to come to the office AND you are not delivering then yeah obviously here is the door.
