Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

It doesn’t look good for smaller hubs

After the JR staff meeting today, I am more worried for my job than ever. It’s not about just RTO anymore or that they’re outsourcing a lot of positions. I got the strong impression that RMC ( and other business lines likely) will have designated hubs. If you’re not in one of those hubs, you are in danger. As someone in a very small hub with minimal RMC presence, this is hugely concerning!

JR didn’t say this directly but reading between the lines of what she did say, this is not a stretch. Clearly leadership wants to move away from geographically distributed teams entirely ( unless it’s collaborating with your co-workers in India or Poland, then it’s totally ok).

If you’re remote or in a hub where your business line doesn’t have much presence, it feels like you will be on the chopping block first.

It sounds like their main goal ( even though it’s so outdated and ridiculous) is to move everyone to the hubs they want them in.

She even mentioned how other banks only have a couple hubs not 22 and we all know that US Bank is now a follower so that’s the direction they will move in.

@dv it’s not being transparent to make vague, ominous statements that leave everyone in a high state of anxiety because there are so many unknowns.

Will business lines have designated hubs?
If so, what are the hubs for each business line?
If you’re not in one of those hubs or are remote, will you lose your job unless you move?
Are they looking to shut down smaller hubs?
How are smaller hubs defined?
And on and on….

What makes me angry is that the MC actions display zero empathy for their employees. We are all supposed to sit in all this anxiety and uncertainty and yet somehow do more and be all pumped about US Bank. I can barely focus on my day to day work.

@e2 yes, exactly! It’s crushing when you’ve built a career here over 15-20 years, been successful and a high performer. You’ve built relationships. You feel confident and strong in your work. But all of a sudden, none of that matters ( due to factors that have zero to do with your effectiveness at your job like because you’re in the wrong location).

All of a sudden, the most important thing about your worth as an employee is the location of where you sit.

No wonder so many of us are upset and frustrated!

@dv Transparency would have been these are the business lines affected within RMC, the people ( remote, non hubs) and the timeline. That at least gives people options to make a decision on starting to look now, wait for severance, or retire. I think we all understand business decisions but the lack of care for people in general is disgraceful and down right disgusting. Some of these colleagues have been here 20 plus years and for some losing their position solely over being remote can be life altering.

@dv I am ok with the answer, it’s the uncertainty of a timeline that is unsettling.

@ay She was transparent - that is why this thread started - she didn’t shy away from the question. People just don’t like the answer.

@be IRRA told everyone in LA to go to Tempe, Minneapolis, or Charlotte a few months ago. One connected person out there managed to survive.

@bd when they did the west coast layoffs in 2024 they didn’t give us Minneapolis as an option, just Tempe, Charlotte, or Pulsar. Wild they can’t even pick places and stick to them, not surprised though.

I also heard RM&C staff cuts are coming and was surprised she admitted to it although I suppose she didn’t have a choice. Maybe midyear exercise is a good way for them to figure out who to cut.

@af So does anyone else think that we are being moved to operations so they can do a “quiet” layoffs since operations is a bigger department? It would make sense as to why the shift was sudden.

As a manager it’s incredibly frustrating to not have answers for my remote staff. Especially when a lot of our senior leaders in our business line are remote. It’s even more frustrating to be caught off guard with comments like this at the end of a call. You talk about staff not trusting the managing committee this is why. You can grow while not treating your employees like a number that can be outsourced!

I wonder how long we have until being laid off..... or if we are given time to "move" this is ridiculous..... I hate the unknown feeling I have to carry after today's all with JR. What was the point in doing mid years and the IDCP's so fast if we are just going to be let go 🤷‍♀️

JR should just be transparent so we can move on. It’s frustrating!

@af 34%, but can confirm they're sensitive about that number being high. I also suspect they're checking IP addresses for remote workers to confirm their address in WD, but that's me reading some tea leaves.

Move to a hub and quit your complaining. Edina Minnesota is where it's at. Most poppin office in corporate America! Come join your colleagues collaborating in Minneapolis. We will lock in productivity gains together and record perfect attendance :) colleague happy hour after!!

I think around 37% of RMC is still remote ( not sure about the rest of the bank). That's quite a bloodbath if that chunk of employees all lose their job if they can’t relocate and that’s not counting the small hubs!

The worst is it’s just silly and d-mb. It’s for absolutely no valid reason.

Is this for real? I'm remote and work on a team that has a lot of remote employees.

Got that impression as well, but I honestly don't blame them. They need to be where the growth and talent are and frankly, Fargo North Dakota ain't it.
