If I survive the next RIF but our function gets impacted to the point where I have to take on even more work... I'm going to look to leave

@cw Salary ranges are set by a computer program. Finance determines the budget.
@by It's hilarious that you think HR has any say in the matter. HR is there to mitigate liability for the corporation when it already decided to underpay people and eventually cut them to fatten the pockets at the top. It's cute you think your HRBP has any say and isn't just pushing Workday buttons also concerned for their own job.
@dx Whatever! They can all kiss my you know what.
I’ve worked at Fortune 500 companies previously and Verizon has the worst HR, worst managers, worst directors, etc…
It’s a sheet show run by incompetent, dishonest people. Absolut Sc-m!
@cw compensation does all things pay. They fall under the HR umbrella but to say HR does it is a little off. It's Compensation and they are pretty strict.
@cj The HR BPs I dealt with ranged between downright nasty and rather clueless with one exception. I’d rather have a root canal than discuss them and Verizon management.
However I do believe that department sets the salary ranges for different bands.
@by that ED didn’t understand corporations. HR actually has nothing to do with comp now. They’re also not your friend - they’re here to protect the company, and that’s it.
They’re also slowly getting replaced by AI.
Pretty funny that anyone ever thought HR's job was to look out for the employee in any way. Their job is to protect the company from lawsuits and bad press.
@by I can assure you that's not HR's current goal. But believe what you need to. I wish you well.
@OP That’ll show em’!
@OP A former Executive Director used to tell us: “HR’s goal is to pay you just enough so you don’t leave”
That was during the Lowell era and before the frequent layoffs started. It’s probably no longer true. HR’s goal now is to make you leave by any means necessary.
Why did you start back in November of 2025? It's easier to find a job when you already have one. Forget the severance. Search for a new one on the companies dime.
Same, this is stressful.
Leave to where though?
Smart guy. Sticking it to the corrupt management bean counters who have no morals, no compassion, no empathy, no humanity.
