Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Handling uncertainty

Asked to relocate to save job. I have interviewed many places but unfortunately didn’t land any job. So it is evident to relocate. However I keep procrastinating that move, as I am being told multiple times here, that I will be cut after moving. Time is running out and I don’t know how y’all made that move decision and went forward. What was that one thing that got you out of your a-s and made the move despite of all these fears?

It's a hot job market no matter what you do. You can't loose either way.

If you have a family, keep them where you live now and rent in the cheapest but most feasible place possible to get to work so you can go back home with the money you made until that point.

If you have no one counting on you, cut your loses and move in with family or friends until you find something better. This place is not a long-term option.

They don’t have ba--s to cut in home state. Why put families through the ordeal and then lay off. Fu--ing psychopaths.

Many have gotten laid off after moving to Dallas.

I considered the disruption to my life, the huge costs in selling and buying a new house (not to mention a hit on the mortgage rate), the higher COL in Dallas (might be lower for you though), and the inevitable move to Plano that will eff up your life in a few years, combined with the uncertainty of your job.

I don't want to imply that a LOT of people move and then get laid off, but it does happen. A member of my team decided to make the move before the official decision cut-off date (he and his wife were having a baby and wanted to move before the baby came). He showed up in Dallas, started to work his job there, and was laid off before everybody got their final notice. So it does happen.

It depends on your department. I saw a lots of person relocating a few years ago and still there. Your department always hit hard on layoffs and what is your ranking in the team
