Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Org charts

I dare you to go to Workday and peruse some of the ridiculous org charts in certain states. Some of these org charts are ridiculously top heavy…

@eg Sure, there are always going to be those employees who need to be babysat/micromanaged more than others, and that su-ks. Those are the ones that need to be removed ASAP. What I think is happening with Centene here, and I could be wrong, but it seems as though their plan is to unload as many veteran/higher paid associates as they can and keep the lesser paid ones around. Sure, it saves some money in the short term, but at what cost? It's a recipe for disaster.

@ef But at what point does "more managers required" become bloated and excessive? Do we just keep on adding more and more managers until the frontline/individual contributors are completely displaced?

@OP You can look at it in a different way. An organization with an incompetent frontline workforce often becomes top-heavy because it requires more managers and oversight to compensate for poor execution. Rather than simply cutting management or staff across the board, the focus should be on building a capable workforce and maintaining an efficient leadership structure. Competent employees need less supervision, allowing leaders to focus on strategy instead of constant firefighting. The objective is not fewer people at every level, but a balanced organization with skilled employees and effective managers.

This top heavy structure is why they are failing. Cut the fat on top first. That is what they should be doing. Maybe they need an outside company to help them with that?!!!

I’d like to see their productivity numbers! Have each conduct time study and report to leadership how they spend their day!

This is actually a very standard corporate structure. It's the same model used by many large companies and major grocery chains to handle different areas of the business. This is nothing new.

Fidelis Care NY is one of those plans. Why are there so many higher ups who do nothing?

Of course they are. There will be a President for every little thing, then each of them will have a Vice President, then an Executive Vice President, an Associate Executive Vice President, a Chief Assistant to the Associate Executive Vice President and on and on. Will any of those positions get cut? NOPE. They'd rather keep the people who do nothing and make a lot more money than individual contributors who make far less do.
