How many or what percentage of strangers do we need to address with a hi, to meet the standard of common courtesy? Its a nice thing to do, nothing else, and its not a bad thing to not do. Do not add any more meaning, you own self-defined expectations is creating your bad day. Not someone not saying hi.

Again, not saying hi, is not a direct negative action towards you. Its nothing.

To expand the OP's topic. Verizon has many folks with different definitions of common courtesy. Maybe racial differences, but regional differences are more common. In any work environment, busy folks skip addressing others, because they are busy and nothing else.

I also work in the northeast in GNT and can confirm this place is weird AF. The culture here is bizarre and hostile. For no reason.

Your definition of courtesy is not the same as someone else's definition. As long as there is no outward negative action taken towards you, take this as learning lesson to be among different folks.

They're busy bean counting in their heads on how to maximize their bonuses and stock options while dividing less pie of the budget to their worker bees. Do not bother them.

The culture has changed significantly over the years. It wasn’t always like what you see today. Speaking as someone who’s worked in GN&T (now N&T) for years in Northeast Area. Lots of organizational name changes coming as well.

It is a courtesy thing.
