Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

ERG participation for United Way Campaign

I want people’s opinions on this. The UW Campaign is in October, and the committee is pulling in the ERGs for engagement. They claim the focus is on the people—not Imperial. But let’s be honest: every single thing we do still gets stamped with Imperial’s name, and employees onsite have zero motivation left. I don’t see how we’re supposed to “engage” anyone under these conditions.

We should just boycott UW as a sign of our displeasure of the way we have been treated. What’s the worst that could happen; they lay us off? All happened so who cares.

Why would I support UW through Imperial after they accelerated the campaign last year to get people to commit money before transformation? I'll still support charity, but it will have nothing to do with Imperial or their name anywhere near it anymore.

@df You’ve hit every point, and anyone denying it is just being a sycophant. This company has been in a decade‑long decline, and its deterioration is obvious, predictable, and entirely self‑inflicted.

Maybe the United Way could do a reverse campaign for the employees of Imperial.
It could go something like this:

Employees of Imperial Oil are some of the least fortunate in the industry.

Toxic work culture with a rank and yank system.

Limited pay increases.

Constantly under threat of layoffs.

Limited growth opportunities.

Massive bureaucracy.

Forced to train their replacement in Bangladesh while waiting for their own demise.

Passed up opportunities in their youth with other companies for Imperial, only to be stabbed in the back.

Come work for Imperial Oil, we are and industry leader in demoralizing our employees

Don’t forget to donate so you can make the company and the UW brown-nosers on the committee look good!

Employees should politely decline participation and focus on either relocating to Edmonton or doing their own job search.

When they say the focus is on people, they mean the focus is on making the company look good so the IOL UW campaign team can brag about doing something new and put something on their PDS to try to get a better ranking for themselves.

It's a shameless ploy to increase participation and guilt people into showing up and smiling to get some photo ops to post on the company Intranet and LinkedIn. If I was an ERG leader, I would wish them well in their campaign but decline participation. ERG's should focus on the core activities of the ERG given the constantly shrinking volunteer base.
