Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Off to a bad start

Well, the big kickoff is underwhelming.

I wasn't expecting an episode of the view right out of the gate. I would've expected this later this afternoon.

Good lord, we're such a woke, gynocentric mess. I gotta get outta here.

Wonder if I can get a useful gig like driving a truck.

@ap Why are you equating the validity of his opinion with his s-xual performance? What kind of s-xist trash are YOU?

They brought this dude out of retirement bc he was at IBM for 30 years. Look at IBM now? Stock is dropping faster than OT. Get the money and roll Ayman, has to better than Marc B. I couldn't stand that laugh of his, looking like a Peter Griffin. We're going to buy this and that.... that's how we grow. What does HP have on sale from the bargain bin. No innovation at all! First global SKO in Waterloo in years, glad I'm out of there. Has to feel weird walking around with a target on ya not knowing if you are part of the next RIF or a divestiture. I worked at OT for many years and they never did anything to get anyone together, guess they have more budget now since they let go so many ppl.

Well...I did conclude my last phone interview and offer will hit my inbox tomorrow morning..as soon as it pops, I will skip the rest of this nonsense meeting and try out some good food up here in Toronto...Blue Jay's game Friday is gonna be a fun event...I still cant get over how they assigned me this dead end list of accounts. Ill just assume they are fools or know anyone that would accept it will just quit sooner than later. My timing is great..BN is done and hats off to the bloke who left this pile of sh*t as next week he is probably on holiday again..laughing at us yanks who work in thos awful place..what a disaster..Ayman is in a real bad spot and his demeanor won't help get new clients..toast...oh one last thing, I talked to a guy they just fired..they gave him two weeks..wow its like working at McDonalds..they view you on the level of fast food..

@aq Marketing is a joke at this point. There is no vision or strategy.

@bc I agree that he's almost certainly a "nasty fellow" behind closed doors. I hope I don't encounter him when I fill my coffee.

Ayman is better than Mark B in the same way that pneumonia is better than smallpox.

@a4, agree, Ayman is the kid who was relentlessly picked on growing up, and now that he can hide behind his $1,000 suits leading a company, he's basically the bully he couldn't be when he was a scrawny underprivileged kid.

@aq agree, really concerning for Muhi to be working and not out on disability.

@OP I have mixed feelings about Ayman. There is always an underlying condensation with him and the way he interacts with employees when he has an audience. Today he repeatedly singled out people for behaviors he didn't like, but in a way that felt more like public correction than any kind of real engagement.

For example, when a group remained standing in the back of the room, he joked that they were only there to be closer to the air conditioning. It was clearly intended to call attention to the fact that they weren't taking their seats.

Similarly, the exchange with Todd Cione (the guy wearing a plaid jacket) ,.asking him live whether he got it or something to that effect , was not a genuine question, but a way of establishing authority over Todd in front of the audience. The interaction felt carefully calculated to reinforce his hierarchy and make it clear who is in charge .

The overall impression reminds me of someone who uses subtle public embarrassment as a leadership tool, not overly aggressive but highly polished. It had the feel of a corporate executive who has mastered the odd of putting people in their place while maintaining plausible deniability.

Also, when he asked the audience to respond and they were quiet, he said" good Lord" and went in to display mild disgust.

Not impressed. I'll guarantee that behind closed doors in meetings with his subordinates , he is a nasty fellow.

I thought Ayman did a good job compared to previous years and brought a sense of realism. Will reserve full judgement until the action plans are shared and we see if they are actually implemented. Found it interesting there was no Marketing representation on the panel, feels like we have a gap there. Wonder how long the Shannon and Muhi double act will continue as he does not seem well. The leaders team doesn’t seem to have the same energy as Ayman and I wonder how many will still be on stage next year.

@OP PLEASE leave so your female coworkers don’t have to deal with your misogynistic a-s. They’re likely carrying your work anyway and could use a break. What’s it like to be a 40yo virg*n?

@ac incredibly valid. Opinions on Mark or Ayman are not mutually exclusive.

I'm not sure that would be approved by the board though. Maybe some SVPs or VPs shuffle, but that'll be sparse. Maybe that helps bad depts. It wont be likely to go much higher.

In my case our process is still similar. However, layoffs and lack of training resources have made more depts reliant on mine. For things that have never been our scope, nor can we go learn due to IT's perms. Laying off bottom up will literally only make that worse.

You can't really have commission based depts without stepping on the salaried a bit. I get that, OT wants to get paid. I will not have my hopes up - despite horrid interactions with Sales I saw they got gutted. That's not right either. And if that's our solution, impossible KPIs for them that get pressed to me over things not in my job? No thanks.

@ab Ayman is better them Mark++, for sure. But I'm not sure what he does to bring about cohesive customer obsession. From my seat here, we're a collection of fiefdoms that does little cross-pollination. It's literally impossible to find support without some sort of tribal knowledge. Otherwise, it sets off a clown show of how each department gets it's palms greased for what should be a simple assist. It's a challenge if you are new here. My own department's processes are stuck in 2007, because that's the way the director, who's been here since before then, has always done it. And woe to the person that interjects logic into that emotional situation.

Don't know how he fixes that, other than laying off from the top down next time.

Ayman is SO much better than the ego of mark++ and fumbling mess that is JMcG. He is funny, engaging, and stuck with the unenviable task of fixing and address a room full of whining colleagues that are going to moan and complain WHOEVER was upthere.

So bored of everyone's BS

@a3 if it's that or going back to the cringe a** cowboy hats.

Or both. Very blursed compromise here.

100% agreed and confirmed. The CEO calling the female client "triple Ds" has to be the worst choice of wording to ever exist in corporate history.

@a4 Ayman comes across as mean and humourless. His so-called jokes are NOT funny. He's a pedant. The way he started with reminding people that soccer is the thing, then showing the F1-inspired image... it wasn't funny, it was mean.

OP’s misogyny aside, I have to agree that so far I’m underwhelmed by Ayman’s performance. A couple of his digressions have just been odd. I’m trying to give it a chance, but I don’t trust the guy yet.
