JPM: JPMorgan Urges Staff to Avoid Deploying Pricey AI for Easy Tasks

From Bloomberg (paywalled)

“You really don’t need the latest cutting-edge, incredibly expensive model to summarize an analyst report,” Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Barnum said on an analyst call Tuesday after the firm reported its second-quarter results. “So the idea is use the right model for the right purpose.”

bwahahahahahaha.

Charlie Scharf: oh yeah? Hold my beer while I tokenmaxx.

That's what dr-g dealers do. They give you that first free taste, then start charging you after you get hooked.

@dn I'm really curious what the Dash utilization numbers are going to look like, given there's no license pressure to cause them to mandate/monitor usage. Not sure what others' experience is, but when they rolled the tool out i tested it a few times looking up acronyms I knew just to see how it worked, and both times it gave me inaccurate or "I dunno" answers. I haven't touched it since.

If Copilot ends up showing 3 day x week utilization across the majority of users while Dash ends up showing single digit percentage utilization - which I fully anticipate will be the case - it'll show a lot. about how good we are at internally developing applications. About the reality of AI adoption at Wells. And about how many people at Wells have reordered their work life around satisfying arbitrary metrics rather than actually being productive.

I suspect that whole "use it or lose it" monitoring program for CoPilot licenses will be quietly buried soon. (Just like VDI--remember that one?) Actually, I'm going to ask CoPilot what happened to VDI. Or, maybe "Dash" knows. We'll see.

Meanwhile at Wells Fargo: "Have you asked Copilot for a weather forecast yet to ensure you hit your 60% use target?"

2026: you are being fired for not using AI enough.

2027: you are being fired for using AI too much.
