Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

any promotion soon? Stuck on grade 8

Stuck in grade 8 since last 7years and salary is 170k in Bay Area. Performance rating is always good with stock options(30k) alternate years, but no promotion. How is it for everyone? I'm pretty demotivated to put the same effort another year!

Your job needs to be eliminated and replaced by H1B

There is a title inflation at Cisco. Everyone is a tech lead after 7 years. Maybe your manager agrees with us here that this is wrong.

Just take interview to check your market price, don't just stay on the same boat and wait. If you get obviously higher compensation and title, just change your boat. If not, stay at the same boat. Good luck.

Cisco pays okay for Bay Area at least for the higher grades.

With (more than) 7 years at cisco you should know the promotion cycles. Major ones are every November and minor ones are every April.

Performance rating is always good

What is your IPF?

Does your manager propose you for promotion every cycle? Does he explain you why it did not get through?

Or does he not even propose you for promotion? Then you should discuss that in 1:1s with him on what it takes to get promoted.

Why do people live in the Bay Area and work for Cisco???

The whole point of taking on the massive cost-of-living burden in the Bay Area is so you can have access to high comp positions. It makes no sense to be there for some underpaying 9-5 McJob.
