The U.S. Forest Service has terminated over 3,000 employees nationwide. Twelve of these former employees are from the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie in Illinois. These layoffs are causing disorientation and a feeling of diminished purpose among the affected workers. The reductions are expected to negatively impact conservation efforts in the state. Midewin's programs will also need to adapt to the loss of staff.
