Our manager has been saying we'd get two new team members for what feels like forever. It's been months and nothing. No new hires, no updates, no explanations. I don't know if there's an official hiring freeze or if the approvals just aren't coming through, but whatever the reason, we're drowning. We can't sustain this much longer and nobody seems to care.

Maybe EMG got promoted because they did a good job to get rid of people
Layoffs are looming. Lots of promotions and backfills or new reqs are just sitting. It makes no sense to hire or promote people while they layoff other people. It’s all about the optics. And if it’s true you have to cut by X% or $X then it really makes no sense to add that back in.
Sometimes delays in filling a backfill is done to prevent layoffs within a team or organization.
