Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Honda and Toyota over ford any day

Have you guys looked at a ford car vs Honda/toyota. The choice is obvious, why would anyone want to buy a ford. The Honda crv was the best selling vehicle in America for a reason. Ownership cost is way lower than a ford. Those who still drive a ford is only because they get a management discount so don’t let them fool you. Bankruptcy is around the corner…

While I agree that Honda and Toyota are still ahead of Ford in many respects, the reality is that most automakers are heading in the same direction. They're replacing proven engines with small, turbocharged 4-cylinder engines that run at higher pressures just to squeeze out more horsepower and meet efficiency standards, often with longevity that seems designed around five years rather than decades.
On top of that, interiors are filled with cheaper materials, body panels feel thinner than ever, and vehicles are packed with expensive CAN bus modules and electronics that can cost a fortune to diagnose and replace. In my view, it's becoming harder to find a truly durable, long-lasting vehicle, regardless of the badge on the hood.

OP that is so obvious no need to say it and ruffle a few feathers here and there. I worked at ford for a while and I kept my Honda because I liked it. People definitely gave me a look when they saw me in it but I don’t care what people think I need to put food on the table and not waste that money on junk that depreciates so quickly like burning money. When they did ask me I was straight up with them, if your kids are going to college don’t you want them to go to the best one for them and not some community college that you work at….that is like me wanting to drive the better car..it promotes competition and forces ford to keep improving their cars and one day I will buy it if it even gets close to Honda quality.

@j3 "Too many of today's so-called engineers couldn't design a simple cardboard box without forming a committee, scheduling a dozen meetings, and asking management for approval." maybe engineers would be objective without ambiguous loss, accountability from bad actors, and also no death threats. maybe they wouldn't come on this site or go on socials, and actually have a normal life and spend time with their friends in their mid twenties. maybe they'd just ship all the software without agentic this that, and. just get it deployed and working without building infrastructure for each and everything and "wasting time" like they don't feel like a slave with the police doing nothing about it and acting d-mb or retaliating with lawfare if you try to go to them. maybe if this person you enslaved was actually given closure they could focus. instead of a daily punching bag for years now all because they had spoken up about real abuses.

Ford has become a monument to bureaucracy. The company is so top-heavy that management layers seem to outnumber the people doing actual engineering. Many of the best engineers—the ones who lived and breathed problem-solving—have long since left. What remains is an army of title-holders more interested in PowerPoint presentations, meetings, and career advancement than engineering.

The result is predictable: a growing shortage of genuine technical expertise and an organization that often struggles with problems that competent engineers should be able to solve routinely. Too many of today's so-called engineers couldn't design a simple cardboard box without forming a committee, scheduling a dozen meetings, and asking management for approval.

@fv if people can’t do the right thing, the only thing to do is burn it down. Everyone on here is stressed due to the sh---y people, me too, until I realized I have money and don’t give a sh-t, more time for fun

Until some genius decided to go with a wet timing belt design. That has got to be one of the most bone headed moves I've ever seen. C'mon....that's how the Italians build cars...not us.

On some (all?) Honda V6's, they have the dreaded timing belt instead of chain "and you might as well replace the water pump at the same time"... whew. I do like them Hondas tho. Ford's bonus is that they have a timing chain on many of those v6 ecoboosts and still messed it up w/ an internal water pump.

@bk to add, I wish I knew this 20 years ago, would have saved a lot of grief.

@OP. Even Mazda upped its game after Ford left them... Ford is in the last and cr-ppiest tier... King of Recalls, with decades of bad decisions after more bad decisions...

@OP

Does it make you feel better declaring something as blatantly obvious as this? Everyone already knows this.

My family in the last few years has had 3 Civics, 2 CRVs ( current one is a hybrid), and 2 Accords (1 Hybrid). Never any problems / issues with any of them.

Not so sure about Honda. I own a 2013 Accord EX-L. The car developed an electric issue in 2015 and at approximately 30,000 miles. I took the Accord to the Honda Dealer where I purchased at car new. The Dealer had the car for a month and couldn’t fix it. I talked to Dealer Service Rep twice a week and asked him several times if they contacted Honda directly asking for help? Service Rep said Yes they did contact Honda Corp asking for help which I’m not sure I believe. When I finally had enough I went back to Honda Dealer to pick up my car. They charged me $1,300 admitting they couldn’t fix car. I then contacted Honda Corp Customer Care Department in California explaining the situation and stated my States Lemon laws and asked them to purchase my car back. A women from Honda Customer Care department called and instead of trying to call again to talk to me directly, she left a message saying Honda Customer Care Department was declining to purchase my Accord back. I could not call her back either because she used Caller ID block when she called me so I wouldn’t know the number she called me from to call back. The women also sent me a no reply email saying the same but left out her phone number in email. I’m not the only one having the electrical issue. I’ve seen many YouTube videos and other videos on Honda car sites where other Honda car owners having same electrical issues and it’s not just the Accords having this electrical issues it’s happening in several other Honda models too. Even with people who have Hondas still under warranty and less miles on their cars then I did. These people did what I did and contacted Honda Customer Care Department asking them to purchase their cars back and were declined just as I was. I’m not going to bother looking at Honda cars ever again either new or used.
