Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I don't see a future here anymore

The smartest thing anyone can do right now is spend their spare time looking for a new job. The people who don't are going to be caught off guard when things get even worse.

@e0 you are what appears at the intersection of "mid" and "the all-in podcast"

if the flight to low-cost capital is so necessary, then why not ask why we don't extend it to the CEO's office?

@bp that’s a very naive, if not stupid view. Bringing jobs back to the U.S. will significantly raise OPEX by somewhere around +20% , and cause more layoffs due to shrinking profit margins. Beware of answers prayers, especially when they come from shallow minds with limited thinking power .

Learn to day trade and invest, then when you get LR'd, you just retire.

Pay reviews twice a year. Which means you will miss out on promotion and pay rises twice a year. But, they get to promise you a pay rise and promotion, depending on budget, twice a year. All you have to do is extra work and promote yourself as much as possible. Oh you did that, and you didn't get promotion, well, you have to work harder, and promote yourself more. Oh you worked harder and promoted yourself more and still didn't get a pay rise and promotion, well, it is just the budget. Keep going. There might be a budget increase in the next pay rise and promotion. The circle of hopelessness.

One quick solution to alleviate the layoffs in high-tech companies, is to bring the jobs back from overseas to US. US jobs for US citizens!

expand your expertise and become more well rounded. working for Cisco you should be aware there are thousands of org's that use technology and its a challenge, pivot to employers that use tech not tech providers.

If you don't think there "is a future" at Cisco, don't bother looking in the open market, you'll just be more depressed

I'm interviewing right now after being LRd...here's the reality:

  • ghost jobs
  • ghost recruiters
  • interviews that go to six, seven, eight rounds and then ghosted
  • time-wasting tech take-home assessments
  • take a week to do a take-home, get everything perfect, still get declined
  • jester-maxxing interviews (D-listers forcing you to jump through hoops for their entertainment)
  • low advertised comp ranges

etc etc

the last point is worth repeating - tech salaries are trending DOWN, and no, it isn't "just me" and you're going to get a big bump...these are the advertised ranges...I've spoken with companies who reveal they are looking for senior remotes and offering less than $150k! forget about that $250k remote job, I haven't spoken to a single company (and I have spoken to over fifty now) that is offering that even for the perfect candidate

so su-k it up and find some way to cope with your current gig
