Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RTO days are pointless

What is the purpose of the 3rd office day? He-l, hardly anybody does it and lots of other teams barely come in for the required 2 days & are still employed. They come in for a few hours, swipe badge and are out.

Are you telling us it is pointless and you don’t want to do it? Or are you complaining that other people do what they want and it irks your pants?

@cj know of people who came in consistently 3x and still got RIF whereas I come 1-2x per week. I come in to the office and join virtual meetings and socialize. It’s really not that “productive” to be in person.

@ab that is just categorically false… take a walk the office on any given Tuesday and you’ll see many buildings and floors nearly empty. Granted it is summer, but even before then… I can’t remember days this year that resembled the busyness of when we moved to 3 days back in September. Also consider how we laid off a ton of people in BR since then.

They aren’t tracking attendance. You will be RIFd whether you come or not. Many peers came in 3 days a week and were let go in November while those who don’t come in are still employed. Save on gas and WFH.

@OP lot of bootlickers here lol.. The vibe with this company is do your job but not your heart.. RTO is about the power and the hopes that you find another position, and defintly start looking b/c Hatchet man will be chopping more. There's no "synergy" or added productivity at the office. We did study's and it drops in these horrible hubs spaces and encouraged remote when the work got heavy. Every one in Dallas was heavy on RTO and guess what... riffed; myself, just got my work done remote still here.

@OP if you have time to worry about what someone's else in another team does or don't then there is a fundamental issue with your job....maybe it is one of those roles that offer no value to the biz..no offense...just saying....

@aa this is an odd post and I do hope if your boss is a je-k it gets fixed. The way you framed this though makes it look like you are simply mad at a manager doing their job and you not following rules (not saying that’s the case but that’s you worded it). A managers literal job is to track their direct reports and workdays and you are required to advise them if/when you are going into the office vs out.
I’m sure there is more to the story so I’m not judging you by any means but the way you worded this comes across like an employee who isn’t following basic work rules and doesn’t like to be held accountable

Basking ridge parking lots are packed more and more since we started RTO.

Sigh… Not my direct manager, whose entire job seems to revolve around tracking everyone else’s time and workdays.

She gets upset if you switch your in-office day without telling her—like coming in on Monday instead of Thursday. Seriously?

She recently received poor Pulse feedback in the “direct manager” category, and honestly, she’s a big reason I’d consider leaving Verizon.

Maybe Verizon should give her some actual work to do instead of spending her time making PowerPoint decks and poking her nose into everyone else’s business.

@OP what location and group are you in? You were recently told you need to be in office 3 days a week?
