Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Job title downgrades coming

Job title downgrades coming for VPs of all levels and Directors of all levels. The company needs to save money and this is the logical way.

@ep Those are two separate things. Employees from company A being hired by company B with a higher title and compensation is normal and a good thing and I’m happy for them.

I was talking about internal title bump without a corresponding bump in salary. AT&T did the same thing.

Some of the very capable ICs at Verizon are underpaid so it’s not entirely surprising when they get better offers from other companies.

@eg I would like to counter that. I am looking at positions in the market where ICs are being hired as Directors in companies like Novartis, Saleforce etc.

What goes up must come down! The titles were inflated without a corresponding bump in salary.

In the past 15 years or so someone with IC reports title went from Manager to Sr Manager to Associate Director.

The Director title became Sr Director. Etc…

Same responsibilities, same pay. The whole thing is silly and pointless.

Nah @b1 if it happens it would be because McKinsey told them to.

I think tbe job title changes are due to or related to either BT koint ventire or that Verizon will have another merger and aquisition. Not certain if it’s a requirement when it comes to this that management levels are aligned.

What would drive the change? A certain number of employees that roll up to them?

Yeah the rumor has been flying around for months about the mid level MGMT people leaders but it did not happen, bc the different views on how AIs will play in the near future: AI will replace ICs but not decision makers, or not many people leaders will be needed as AIs will automate some of the decision making processes.

@OP Title changes keep the same pay.

Is it coming with pay cut or not? Industry wide directors can be individual contributors but not here.
