I worked very hard to be promoted and I finally got the promotion. But now, when I compare how my much responsibilities have grown and how much of a salary increase I received, I wonder if it was all worth the effort. Anyone else dissatisfied after being promoted?

Very true @4sgw+1kyWBSTe they are still there for now. Just wait and see who is still on who's who after the next few RIF(s). I watched it happen over the years. Hopefully history wont repeat itself and RIF's are now a thing of the past given today's job market? Either way if you are a developer just keep on learning new things don't stay complacent and you will do just fine at FIDO.
I know plenty of managers that could have taken the VBO but did not and they're still here.
I know that if I had left my hands on customer impacting Principal SWE role for management position(s) I would have been gone in the next RIF. Twice I was offered such Director positions over the years. Money was not that much more and who knows if I would have gotten shares in the Director role. Looking back now post VBO that was the smartest thing I could have done career-wise. The Turtle won the race.
You could be elected president of the United States and you would probably still not be satisfied. Your complaints would be about the congress and being blamed for a sh---y economy.
Agreed.
This is true for all technology, not sure about the rest of the company (support staff for tech - ha ha).
Less experienced people being hired, many experienced ppl left via VBO or early retirement.
Remaining experienced ppl are left pick up the slack and provided a handful of peanuts.
