Does anyone know the meeting title that is used for a layoff meeting? Also, who typically sends these out? Is it from HR or your people leader?

@b0 easy…. The link of the meeting is shared with them so this way they can pop in and won’t be on the invite ….. at this point they are in this forum as well and will no longer use the typical verbiage as their subject, if they are smart, which most of aren’t but will be instructed by HR on what title to use and then will pop in for the massacre !!! At the end either accept with dignity or tell them to their faces where they can go that the sun don’t shine !!!! If you take the latter, it will be your shinning moment at least for your own mic drop !!! What is the worse they can do, fire you ?!!! They are already doing that !!!! Go out with a bang !!!!!
Curious how other pop in but are not on the invite?
Former employee here! My lay-off was a 1:1 after just having one about two weeks before. Just with the PL. However, when the meeting began, the Director "popped" in while I was notified.
Former Exec Asst here. In our department, layoffs meetings are generally scheduled as a "1:1" from your people leader. The people leader forwards the meeting to HR at the last minute and they then attend. Hope that helps.
@aa that is how was told at my last employer that did layoffs. I had feeling that is what it was when it was moves along with a couple other meetings. My Teams also started acting wonky that morning before I was told.
Layoff meetings typically happen on a Thursday, in my experience.
A meeting scheduled out of nowhere, on a Thursday, usually titled "check in."
From my own experience, 1:1 was canceled and moved to the next morning and the new email subject was "check in".
From what ppl have said in past posts there where a few titles used, the problem is they are same titles we have all seen and it not be layoffs. So it's hard to know. Typically it is a morning meeting.
Some common titles:
Touch base
Business update
Organizational changes
And some people have been told during their 1on1, especially if the 1on1 was canceled and moved to a different day (earlier or later)
I have seen ppl say the clue is that suddenly an HR person who was not seen on the invite joins the call.
Some department will later do a meeting after the fact to let the rest of the team know that current round of layoffs are done (getting the all clear you are safe), but not all departments do that.

I would just pay attention to any random meeting invites which includes a HR representative in the meeting. It can be sent by your supervisor or manager or anyone, but if a HR representative is included that should be enough to know if its layoff related or not.
I remember my first corporate layoff. They had my department, which was about 100 strong, meet in the cafeteria where they read us a corporate letter telling us we had 2 months left.
no idea!- Just general confusion and anxiety! They try to use sweet words!
