Thread regarding EchoStar Communications Corp. layoffs

This isn't a restructuring to streamline the business it's a systematic gutting designed for total liquidation

They slashed almost every dept to the bone, eliminating key personnel necessary for functionality with zero regard for anything, especially how this affects families of employees who have worked and sacrificed themselves for the benefit of the company for decades, only to be cast aside like yesterday's trash. What a warm, fuzzy feeling of loyalty and trust this layoff just gave everyone.

@a6 Hughes is a registered company in many of these countries, and there are complex labor laws to follow if you are going to let people go. Starting with the US is the easy part. For example in Europe you cannot just give 2 months notice and that is that. There are multi-month legal notifications and consultations. This includes paying up.

@af yes but the issue is they are all so reduced and anaemic that you cant get rid of anyone else without operations catastrophically failing

none of the subdivisions at Hughes Network Systems (India, Brazil and EMEA) are aware of the layoffs in America,,, Todays the first day I heard of this news,, The $1.5 billion debt I only heard about because of a news article but it looks to be at breaking point as August looms,, Nobody knows what happens to business is: will the subdivisions be sold off ? succeed? Or die to the same fate in the US? Its so impossible to predict until next week,,,

@a2 operations are all tied up to common infrastructure, hard to see how selective business can be sold

I suspect there will be more significant changes by the end of the week, when the debt comes due.
