Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Alright, what was with the big “event” today

If you don’t know what I’m talking about I heard lots of buzz about something that rhymes with pooter and starts with “sh” (dunno what words are banned here). Anyone know what’s up? Got one half of folks talking it up about it with all sorts of creepy details and the other half trying to downplay it and go back to business as usual and pay no mind. Thoughts? Info? Just gossip?

well @kpg maybe you shouldn't make stupid statements like this and others might not make fun of you. "I will not be returning to campus until this protocol is known and understood by all."

@1xt can most people outrun a bullet? Before you berate someone online think about what you just suggested.
Yes, there are lots of people with their heads up their butts at Nike, but it would be absolutely better to have everyone trained, esp. for those that are competent in the situation than dealing with a bunch of panicked people “outrunning bullets” and causing actual harm and perpetuating an unsafe situation. Nike is stocked full of herd animals and I would rather the herd have a concise plan of action.
So let’s try to be a little more thoughtful about it before you rip someone a new one.

@kpg, you need “training” on how to deal with an active shooter? I’ll give you your training right now:

  1. Hide if you can.
  1. If you can’t hide, run like helll in the direction opposite the shooter.

All clear?

I swear to God, is common sense completely dead these days? Does everybody need to be led by the nose? Is everyone completely helpless to think for themselves? Do we also need someone to tell us to put shoes on every morning before we leave the house?

I’m sure you’ll get over your “I haven’t received active shooter training” PTSD quickly and we’ll see you back on campus soon.

From the KGW website:

BEAVERTON, Ore. — A series of misunderstandings led to a lockdown of the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton Thursday, followed by a mistaken report of an active shooter that prompted police to respond to the campus.

According to Sgt. Dxxxxx Dxxxxxx with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the situation began when dispatchers received a call from a person who reported that a friend of theirs had sent them a video in which the friend indicated that they were sui-idal.

A Nike sign was visible in the background of the video, which led the caller to believe that their friend filmed the video near the Nike campus.

Sheriff's office deputies went to the headquarters and began working with Nike security, Dxxxxxx said, and the campus was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

During this time, a contractor who was doing work at Nike called their significant other, who was not on the campus, and told them about the lockdown. The significant other then called 911 and incorrectly reported that there was an active shooter at the campus, Dxxxxxx said.

That call in turn prompted more sheriff's office personnel to respond to the campus and go through one of the buildings floor by floor and room by room to check for an active shooter. The process took about half an hour, according to Dxxxxxx. No shooter was found.

The sui-idal person in the video was later determined to have been in North Portland, according to Dxxxxxx.

KGW has reached out to Nike for comment about the incident and will update this story if the company responds.

We need to also do Fire and more earthquake trainings, like at least once a quarter. My greatest fear is being trapped at work during Cascadia

Lots of rumors, but one thing is for certain. We need training on safety protocols. I’ve been with the company for nearly 10 years. Not a single time we’ve been trained on how to handle an active shooter situation. Completely unacceptable from a company and campus of this size. I will not be returning to campus until this protocol is known and understood by all.
