Happy New Year! First Recall

Oh how many more coming this year?

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator models over a seat belt chime issue.

The defect: in affected vehicles, when the driver’s seat belt is not buckled and the vehicle is started, the seat belt warning system may activate the audible warning chime for an insufficient amount of time of less than four seconds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

The hazards: an audible warning chime that does not properly alert of an unbelted seat belt can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Components: audio control module software.

Affected vehicles: select 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator models produced at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant between October 19th, 2018, through December 13th, 2022.

Number of vehicles affected: 72,248

The fix: dealers will update the audio control module software, free of charge

A warning chime that turns off in only four seconds is a feature I would pay extra for.

No need to worry. As long as ford's marketing budget is feeding affiliate publications, and automotive outlets stories about recalls, or any other negative narrative will never get the coverage to go viral. Will be DOA.

Seriously, no one is going to anger a customer that spends 2B annually in ad spend.
