Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoff anxiety

Am I the only one who's constantly worried about layoffs? I can feel my productivity going down because I can't concentrate properly. Each day I'm wondering if my team will be impacted. We've managed to avoid cuts for the last year so now it's probably just a matter of time before we're affected. I wish there was an easy way to deal with this, but I can't think of one.

I actually want to be laid off so I can collect unemployment dollars for awhile like everyone else is doing! Go ahead, make my day, make me an offer! Put us out of our misery!

It all boils down to mind over matter. If you think you will be laid off, you will. If you think you are above and beyond being laid off, you wont. Sit back and watch the unproductive ringers get kicked to the curb. Every group has them, the ones that fail to show up on calls, and they can never be reached, never bothering to return calls.

There’s nothing you can do to stop a layoff from happening so focus your energy on what you can control. I’m sure you have a proper savings account. Update your résumé. Update your references. Continually check the job market in your area and see if there’s something out there that you may be interested in regardless of surplus status. Live your life, but make smart decisions. Know exactly how much you have to make in order to continue to pay for your basics, Such as mortgage, utilities, food. Make wise spending decisions – you should be doing this at all times not just when there’s talk of layoffs. Make moves to pay off your debt and stay out of debt.

Actually, there is a very simple solution to your anxiety. Here it is:

  1. Start working on your resume. Update it so it is as current as possible and that it highlights all of your strengths, accomplishments, and experience.
  2. Go to LinkedIn, or Indeed, or any other large employment search website and begin to identify potential new jobs in which you may have interest and the needed background.
  3. Send in your resume with a cover letter to all of the openings you've found.
  4. Begin the interview process until you find a place which seems a good fit.
  5. Leave T and never suffer this nightmare again.

You can thank me later.
