It's a wash! Customer no service is the champion today, makes no difference if it's a real person or AI bot/chat. Companies think they are saving real labor costs, unfortunately, good customer service is an oxymoron. Try buying some think on ebay, but you never receive the item. All You want is your money back. Good luck, it quickly becomes a nightmare. How the entire customer base let these companies get away with no customer service is beyond me.

You mean like the all powerful, 1st level chatbots? LOL!
Your problem has to fit into their narrow scope within the AI's programming, assuming the person wants to use them. AI has a problem when you pose something paradoxical to the programming. Also, AI has ethical issues. There was a Tweet where someone posited to ChatGPT whether they should allow a 50 megaton nuclear we-pon to detonate, or enter a racial slur that would disarm it. The chatbot chose to allow the we-pon to detonate.

"Nobody else has recognized the irony of a poster worried about AI chat being so semi-literate that he/she doesn't know that "alot" isn't actually a word?"

Oh wow! You found a typo. You surely are SVP material, or a mobile phone sales person, interchangeable. Only at AT&T though. I have no doubt that AT&T will soon be rid of the ridiculous number of "Individual Contributors" that "work" from home. The big broom is coming to do some much needed sweeping.

Maybe AI is the only thing left to save T from the ignoramuses working there.

“ Contracting the work out always ends up costing AT&T more money in the long run.”
Hmmm seems to work for Google, Meta, Nike, HP, American Express……never mind you’re right.

“ MASTEC...not a chance! It'll be AT&T until the day I retire and I can guarantee I have at least another 5 years or so!”

Lol…good luck with that.

Bring it on. Some people have to learn the hard way.

Contracting the work out always ends up costing AT&T more money in the long run. They are repeatedly learning from this mistake. They contract the work out , only to bring it back in house. Again and again again.

The company still needs boots on the ground to implement all their technology. Field Techs aren't going anywhere. T needs field techs in the commercial arena to perform new installations, refreshes, de-installs and managed services. T has an awful lot of commercial customers, national accounts and just mom and pop businesses. Field techs are vital to the success of this business service.

Any job that is susceptible to AI tech could just as easily have been outsourced, so that job will be gone regardless. Even without special "AI" magic , T (and other corporations) has been on an autonomous kick and between Rpi ,AI , and just job role consolidation many lower level jobs will be gone.

Much, much sooner than 10 years. In fact they already have integrated technology into the global infrastructure. Nice try though.
