Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any update for those in 1/21 RAN/ACE ‘Affected Work Groups’?

Based on the script he was reading, deadline for responding to IIL survey (Interest in Leaving) was Jan 31st. Official surplus notice is expected “sometime middle of February”.

Has anyone heard anything more specific since then?

Any news on this?

I was on the 1/24 AWG call, and still waiting like everyone else. Consensus (based on other posters) for date of announcement seems to be Fri 2/17. Mums the word at my work location though.

Has anyone heard any news from a reliable source?

2/17 is the judgement day. Probably if we get a call from the AM that should be it.

Life is good and im keeping my head high.

T does things back a$$wards as it emails hundreds an IIL letter even after most employees that were willing to leave already left at the end of last year. Shows how trully clueless or thoughtless ATT upper management is! UNBELIEVABLE!

I can’t imagine there would be that many IIL takers with all the people that have just left in the past year either because of the cuts in benefits, pensions, etc. Seems like most that wanted to leave would have been gone by December.

“ Deep cuts coming, very few takers took the IIL. Safe to assume that each Director team (RAN/C&E) will experience 8%-10% reduction in workforce. Planning underway for another round 4Q2023.”

How would you even know there were “very few takers?” From what our AM has said it is an 8% reduction across the org. Everything is just hearsay until we get the final word. It is a little messed up to make everyone wait in limbo for a few weeks to see if they will be employed or not.

“ Not that concerned about layoffs anymore once I hit 24+ years but it was a roller coaster ride of emotions prior to that, so I feel for anyone on the bubble and not wanting to go voluntarily.”

Are you craft or management. I assume craft a-s years of service doesn’t protect you in management

All the timelines mentioned in this thread are for management, craft notifications are on the 15th right before the next quarter starts. It either happens or not 4 times a year like clockwork , at least that’s some consolation unlike management that never knows when the proverbial shoe is going to drop.

“Also closer you are to the customer and actually actively impacting network performance each day , less likely to be impacted.”

Massively incorrect….

Also closer you are to the customer and actually actively impacting network performance each day , less likely to be impacted.

That statement makes the most sense! Like I have said previously, field technicians that install AT&T services in commercial customer locations are least likely to be affected by any head count reductions! Nothing to worry about!

ACE notifications will be on 2/17. Straight from the mouths of RAN Director. That said impact to RAN isn’t going to the the announced 11%. This isn’t being spread evenly like butter on bread. Some groups like those in C&E have large numbers who have little to do this year due to budget cuts so they will see larger cuts across groups. Also closer you are to the customer and actually actively impacting network performance each day , less likely to be impacted. Hearing RAN cuts something I. The order of 5-7%. Still…stinks

"Bonus payment is anticipated on March 6" im assuming if you are out of the system, check will be mailed to you?

I was surplused July 2020 (L2 Mgt legacy B) and my prorated 2020 bonus was direct deposited in March 2021 just like all my regular paychecks had been direct deposited. I don't remember doing anything special to make the bonus payment electronic.

ACE East was told 1/31 was the deadline for the IIL. 2 weeks after that Surplussed workers notified which should be the 14th and last day of employment will be 2/28/2023.

Yes, final paycheck along with 2022 bonus will be sent to address on file. You will also receive a prorated 2023 bonus next year.

I was on the AWG call too and now waiting like everyone else to find out if I am being surplussed or not. My group is L2 management, RAN engineering. We haven’t heard anything other than what OP has already mentioned.

No time to concern yourself with another employee that "might have a family to support!"

Supervisors will receive documents on Thursday 2/16 to notify impacted on Friday 2/17 and off the payroll by 3/3 inclusive of those that volunteered. Teams will be rebalanced due to the holes so expect some shell gaming. Your new supervisor doesnt know you and will rank you low. Calvary is on the way with college hires/TDPs of cheaper labor and benefits. Spreadsheet jockeys and ticket routing are ripe for replacement.

Next round later this year more L2/L3 consolidation with work shifting to vendors for RAN/ACE.

I was willing to work another 1-2 years, but would rather be in control of my own destiny, especially if I can walk away with 6m severance. I submitted my YES response on 1/30.

I haven’t heard a peep from anyone since that AWG call. Hoping they accept my “yes, I’m interested in leaving” response. Maybe it will save someone else’s job that might have a family to support.

I believe I was told February 15th would be the notification date, and off payroll March 1st.
