Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford's white collar jobs at NA. What is the head count?

So I been following Ford's constant layoffs.
My friend (a supervisor at ford) told me that the have 32K and cutting 3K in August.
Also they cut few thousand people through "early retirement" age based layoffs in Dec 2022. I am assuming you are close to 25K now.
So 25 % is ~ 6K now ... we you are at 19K.
What is the Ford's management real goal? Are they trying to move the 20K engineering jobs to Mexico? Why they just don't man up and say so..
I just don't think they should play games.
Just say the plan is to move Engineering out of NA in next X years. Simple and done.

@p-e+i14Ky2A5 - The 3K let go in August, it's blatant age discrimination, plain and simple.

The plan is clearly as many salaried workers in Mexico and Brazil as possible.

The goal is LL4+ in the glass house, everyone else in Mexico or Brazil.

So unless you are an LL4 or higher it's only a matter of time.

Go dig thru the pension obligation documents online.. They will show what is owed to what age group. Because the pension was shut off in 2004 the numbers are becoming meaningless. The over 30 yrs crowd is pretty thin. The 20-25 and 25-30 crowd make up less than 10K employees if my estimates are correct.

The low interest rates and resulting boosted lump sum will not be seen by the over 30 crowd for some time. My investments since my lump sum was received in mid Oct are doing just fine.

This will pi-s everybody off too...Come June 1 I qualify for unemployment I did not quit nor did I retire. The Nov30 group does not qualify for unemployment.

Ford did not "cut a few thousand through early retirement age based layoffs" in December. Age based layoffs are illegal. The 11/30 retirements were 100% voluntary. Rising interest rates made it advantageous for those interested in the lump sum pension payout to retire be fo-e December vs working for a few more years. Higher interest rates mean a lower lump sum so even with missing out on another year or two wages, it made financial sense for some people to retire.

The goal is to eliminate pension obligations. To do so, they will replace pensioners with a less costly counterpart, most often located in a low cost county. Several years ago, they identified LCC engineering centers, one being in Mexico. FMC is not a supporter of the American worker, whether they be salaried or hourly.

Ford is also hiring back some of the 2022 retirees as agency employees. They are cheaper labor with no benefits or paid vacation days from their agency employer.

Ford is an Un-American company.

I know I am not answering your question about the real goal. My comment is about the reductions. They reduced the workforce by 3K in August. However, there are many postings for those same jobs. The 3K reduction won’t hold. They are already hiring replacements.
