Help Getting Personal Files Off Laptop , instructions given don't seem to work

If any Dell Employees could let me know if this as worked, Have a ton of pics on dell worklaptop which were never moved off. Many of my 13 yearold only child .. Is really going tobe a gut punch.

Instructions were to

  1. create folder named "Personal" is onedrive , done.
  2. move personal pictures and documents to folder , done
  3. share onedrive folder with "Personal Account" done, gmail and a couple other after first attempt failed.

use link provided from personal computer retrieved from provided personal gmail
tried chrome, authenticated + rsa challenge. Chrome failed.
suggested try with edge, I did it said I needed an authenticor and kept redirecting me.

so basically, has anyone got this to work, if you did what additional steps were taken, I can install whatever, but it seems to be a never ending, do this, no sorry try this, no do this and I have 2 days left to get it done.

Do not take any of the advice on copying to a thumb/USB drive of any kind. They push tracking software onto the laptops of those impacted well before the notification date. Not only will they see everything you copy over, but the copy you make will be encrypted and unreadable when you try to access it on another system.

Call support and do it through the proper process. The last thing you need is a call from security after your last day questioning this. Your severance money won't be sent until 30 days after you sign the agreement, so that gives them a month to possibly pull it over this.

buy a cheap thumb drive. copy to the thumbdrive, then to your home Pc. Delete/format thumb drive and keep it aside until they (don't) ask you for it. If they do ask for it, give it to them.
Move on.

I will offer you this - if you do use removable media, upon separation you will be grilled by Dell Security asking for you to return all removable media that you connected to your laptop. They gave me a list of all the removable devices that I used as part of my role and demanded they be returned. Fortunately mine were all legit, but I can see security getting cranky about this.

I think maybe there has to be a microsoft account associated with the email address you share it with? It worked fine for me. It gave me three choices: authenticator app; authenticate via a code sent to the email address; or authenticate with the phone associated with that microsoft account.

Personally what I would do is, make sure the pics are on your hard drive, log off all networks, etc., so don't be online at all, and then move over to an external drive. That may or may not work, they have alot of security on those laptops so copying anything is very difficult so good luck. Why on earth would you put personal anything on your Dell Laptop or any work-issued laptop?
