Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs

With so many layoffs occurring. Why are so many recent retirees being brought back? We were glad to see most of them leave. Now they are back and the cronyism and nepotism is being rubbed in everyone’s face worse than ever. They retired, locked in pension/benefits, and now they are back drawing a paycheck for doing little to nothing.

If leadership ever did a check on who is back, they’d be surprised. One org gets rid of as employee and another brings back as contractor.
Can’t believe T doesn’t notice/check for this. It’s causing issues.

The reason T is bringing back retirees is simple: They know how to do the job while you millennial and Gen Z infants are too busy whinging about your feelings and creating social media ticktock videos griping about being asked to do your jobs.

One has to be out 6 mos before returning and I think it takes 5 years before time can be bridged...who knows these days as rules are always changing

I get nonstop emails and solicitations for contract jobs at AT&T, even though we’ve been in a full hiring freeze for the last 8 months.

I’m retired and get emails every month about open positions at AT&T. I worked for 2 1/2 years at other companies after retiring from AT&T. Looks like they want experienced folks back on payroll.

I am a retiree that was brought back. My new boss told me they didn't have and couldn't find anyone to replace me. I have a really good skilset, you can't find just anywhere. I admit I am living the good life, no worries about layoffs! I hope to get anywhere from 5 - 10 years in, life is good.

Are they coming back with bridged service? Have seen this happen before and typically for specific projects and timeframes. Company gets the expertise without the commitment. Project and contract over with and so is their employment.

Follow the money… the only winners in this situation is the vendors and contractors. The only interest of these people is lining their pockets and their friends pockets. Time to start naming names.

This is further causing the destruction of T. New employees who can look at problems with a fresh perspective is greatly needed.
