Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell M&A?

I've been hearing rumors that Dell may be aligning for a merger with another company in the next year. Unlike the EMC M&A however this time around Dell would be absorbed into a bigger entity rather than be the big fish in the pond doing the eating. Any substance or just typical rumor mill bull sh-t?

More likely than a takeover is a spinoff of CSG and ISG into separate companies, like what HP did. Separate out the commodity business (for HP printers, for Dell PCs) from the faster growing enterprise business to unlock more shareholder value. The recent major reorg that accompanied the layoffs would seem to support starting down that path.

broadcom (avargo) could buy it then turn it into a cash cow machine. Hock Tan is a brutal S-B, he will cut all dev and keep just a few to maintain cash cow machine.

Who would want Dell? and for what? there is nothing innovated about the company, no good engineers or technology as they don’t value them or pay well. they still act like a transaction based pc company model.

My worst nightmare after being laid off... is to find a new job and then Dell merges or acquires the company!

Nah. Company too bloated. If they did another 10-15% layoff, maybe.

Dell is a dinosaur. It lives and dies based on pc sales. Nothing new or innovative comes out of this company. Dell can’t embrace the future. No one will buy Dell.

Why would a cloud player buy Dell? We are failing miserably at it.

That rumour has been around for ages. It would be possible now as the shareholders may want to cash out on a high and also, for one of the big cloud players Dell would basically seal the market for them from front to back. Not sure the regulators would allow it. But the cloudy people dont like product.

Likelyhood? 20%
