Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Remember when?

Employees and retirees alike. When we were proud to work or had worked for at&t. It was a well respected company, it meant something to share that you worked for at&t. All that is gone, all within the last decade, respect is no longer an attribute associated with at&t. Employees and retirees are no longer vocal about where they WOK or worked. Pretty sad for a 150 year old company that was once an icon of the business community. Sad, very sad. Thanks Stephenson and Stankey!

I am ashamed i worked at att I avoid it at all costs telling people. proud of the place I work now they try to actually serve the customer.

I do love telling the over agressive salesmen at sams and costco that I do not want anything from att -

changing times require change. Take care of yourself and do unto others. the company is not your identity , you are. live up to yourself.

Still proud and a retiree. You may not be proud of the company, but you can be proud of how you dealt with corporate bureaocracy, company mismangement, and poor leadership, but still accomplished something of value (I hope). Hey, you could have worked for FTX or SVB. Now those are companies you probably wouldn't be proud of having been with.

I can’t say I’ve ever worked anywhere outside the military where I was proud to say I worked there. Maybe it’s just my generation, but I’ve never worked anywhere that treated employees well. This place is about as good as it gets from my experience. It used to be a lot better when I first started.
It’s just a paycheck and a paycheck that is not keeping up with the market. I do my job, make sure I take care of the people depending on me and that’s it. Currently looking for better opportunities

Last week was “Employee Appreciation” week. In the area I work we heard nothing from our 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level managers. Nothing, not a word. No sense in them pretending to “Appreciate” employees for week.

I take my branded clothes off when I go anywhere after work due to the hostility and frustrated people that constantly stop me to vent. No longer proud, just here for the paycheck even though I still try to do my best but just not enthusiastic or hopeful anymore.

Until I find something else or retire I won’t allow AT&T to change my character or work ethic despite poor leadership and wok agendas. I was raised on rugged individualism and to do my best not matter the task. I’m inspired by others around me who aspire to do the same.

During the Holidays, we were speaking with some of our friends who were contracted to T. They were talking about their awesome Christmas Party, and about how much fun they all had. Our team at T- nothing. No one cared. The manager couldn't be bothered. Never even got a Christmas gift this past year. It was never really expected, but it was always appreciated. It is always just a sad state of affairs to work around here. No one really cares and it shows.

All companies ebb and flow. I don’t feel any more or less proud than day 1.

I used to buy junkyard parts from a salvage yard outside Duncanville, Tx & the owner had a hoot & hollar circuit that broke all the time. Went in once with a 2nd level looking for a 287 engine & tr---y for his stang & as he was about to pay, yard the owner asked who he worked for. After getting answered, the yard owner threw us out & refused to sell to either of us and trespassed us.
Think the yard owner was PO?

The good times. Back when they would threaten to cut off your service if they found out you had plugged anything other than a company approved phone in at your house. Back when we would tell customers to take our customer service or leave it since we were the only game in town. Back when we weren’t giving away dial tone like it was a add on service like caller ID. Back when 50 foot cords were hot so you had flexibility to talk on your phone. Back when that 1200 pair copper cable had 1100 customers working in it. Sweet memories…

I haven't told anyone I work for AT&T in years. If I do I always get an ear full of how bad the company is, how poorly they've treated customers, etc.
I came across from Cingular Wireless, which was a great place to work, great management, good leadership, excellent raises and nobody jacked with the bonuses.
When AT&T brought CW back in house under the AT&T umbrella, we were treated like total sh-t by legacy T. Treated like thugs and misfits even though wireless was keeping the company floating.
I caught up with 2 attorneys who were formerly CW employees also and got an ear full of how poorly they were treated by legacy attorneys. This was right after we successfully launched the 1st iPhone and were thrown a launch party.
Stephenson and Stankey have completely destroyed a once great company.

Yes, I remember years ago when things were different and we took pride in working for the company.

We were closer as a group. We had an AT&T Telco golf group (mgmt & craft) that had monthly tournaments. We even competed in an annual tournament against another Telco group from a nearby city.

We also had an annual weekend fishing trip at a local lake. We have 50-60 show up with their boats and stayed at a lodge. Fun times!

We would have a large local meeting at the start of every year to discuss district goals with a nice dinner afterwards. It made everyone feel we were on the same team working towards a common goal.
That all went away years ago when budgets were cut and consolidation began. Instead of having a district head in town, they were now hundreds of miles away. It just became a place to pick up a paycheck.

Randall wanted to feed his ego and play on the same field as Apple and Microsoft. The only problem is he gambled with the company and bought businesses he knew nothing about and were on the decline!!

I wonder if these two so called leaders are aware of the employee sentiment? If they're aware that the employee morale is at an all-time low? If they are, do they even care enough to change the culture or to even get the company back on track enough to lift the spirit of what AT&T used to be? I doubt it, but I some how wish somebody would actually tell them!
