Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco is rated the lowest

Like Cisco managers give performance rating, I do rate companies I work.
Cisco got N, or needs improvement rating. Reason, Cisco is the company where I received the lowest compensation among 7 other companies I work for. Also, cisco is the only compamy where I couldn't event get a promotion. Now, all the cisco lackeys will turn down this post, but there is huge population similar to me who hates cisco and creates the eco system that fu$ks cisco in other companies.

I left Cisco 2 years ago (RTP) and glad I did, from a financial perspective. I still miss the friends/coworkers of course. On one hand I applaud Cisco for being open & honest on its MRR salary zones, so you can ask your mgr where you stand. On the other hand, it verifies your suspicions when you’re underpaid.

We earned it though. More than one time so exhausted from TAC escalation I slept on the floor from 2am (still at work), rather than go home just to start shift at 8am.

In a startup you'd be seeing the sunrise before crashing for months at a time, and most don't pay off.

You seriously posted this based on your personal rating? I guess I need to go post about my least favorite job.

post about TAC and the 2000s is 100% correct, you got options, but made little or no money, felt lucky to get 10k in RSU, now its impossible unless you are a director. We just show up and do the min to get by cause we dont care anymore, its a job with benefits, you took every bit of us caring by constant layoffs and firing good people. Ill stay till the buffet ends and then hope to p-e on the Cisco grave if possible.

I post here because indeed I miss the old non-woke Cisco of the 2000s, and it is sadly funny to read these current posts, and think; dang how is this even remotely that same company now, as far as work ethics and moreover profit sharing (stock options), especially for younger people.

Profit sharing turned into profit sharking, for a small crew of "executives". Sad.

If I can convince one gifted person in their 20s or 30s to GTFO and go elsewhere with their great skills; that is a good thing.

To the woke, powerpoint pushers; yeah you deserve to remain in the now "social cause" Cisco stew; simply because you never would have survived a year of old Cisco TAC in early days.

Regarding:

"...their impotent dreams of making a million dollars for being a failure that managed not to get fired for five years..."

Yes, it was indeed possible for the average person (G9) to become a millionaire, at old Cisco. Hired in 2000.

I survived a bit over 15 years and net worth is just over $2M. No idea how that happened, seeing the cr---y RSU "offers" the last few years. Pretty sure it was because I had several great managers who looked out for me, especially during LR cycles; and they were very generous in the early 2000s with options and early RSUs. Then they started to hoard the stock for the executive chosen ones. Pitiful and greedy.

The irony is all but one of those great bosses are now gone from Cisco, and I (and my $ via options) was shown the door too.

Those were the days of the non-woke Cisco where anything went; you learned by getting flamed on an escalation alias; and they had "Beer and Cookies" on Fridays after TAC shift.

We earned it though. More than one time so exhausted from TAC escalation I slept on the floor from 2am (still at work), rather than go home just to start shift at 8am.

Wife thought I was nuts. Now she understands years later.

Doubt any of that will happen for you young folks.

Go look for it, it is out there still. You will earn it though.

OP,
I am not sure about performance rating at Cisco, But Cisco management don't care about employee rating or feedback. Just like you moved on and did good at other places, these people never change. Like other posts mentioned, when all good people leave and Cisco in trouble, they spend Millions if not Billions, buying other companies and make out siders rich, I witnessed many ex Cisco-ites left and rejoined cisco with acquisitions and made a he-l a lot. Cisco never encourage internal innovation, MPLS are the example, always exploited this scenario

Moral of the story,
Don't work hard at Cisco, you will get frustrated,
Other comapnies I worked don't have that many politics and structural issues that Cisco got, mostly attirbuted by stupid low level managers

Agree with OP. I left the company more than a decade back for bad reason, worked hard, but no appreciation. They promoted and rewarded my colleagues at the expense of me. Guys, this what happens if you use and throw and hardworking people.

...why are you still here posting about Cisco?

Some of us are trying to help the clueless who think this is the first time layoffs have ever occurred, that their impotent dreams of making a million dollars for being a failure that managed not to get fired for five years, etc... gain some attachment to reality and either accept their life at Cisco or if they can't to make the changes they need to make because whining here won't fix their lives. Just look at the voting patterns: posts about reality are downvoted and posts about being coddled from cradle to grave are upvoted.

Being stuck in the void between acceptance and meaningful change is not only hurting their careers but the careers of the people they work with and for many of you it really is time to dump or get off the pot.

I got pay and promotions at Cisco and I gave them an F because the other companies I worked for had the engineering and management skills to effectively and profitably develop multiple generations of systems that do something no one else has done before within tight time and monetary constraints. Cisco had to keep acquiring companies just to keep moving packets and is the only company I've seen that had projects overrun by more than 10X.

Revenge is a stupid motive and to think you can gain it by creating another packet pushing company says you know nothing about business. The competent learned valuable life lessons then moved up the stack where there are still growth opportunities.

This post is so d-mb. If you’re no longer at Cisco and you’ve obviously moved on why are you still here posting about Cisco? If your life is soooo good and your making so much more money why do you care about Cisco?

Word to the wise, enjoy your life!
