Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

When's the last time we've had US layoffs?

Everything I've been seeing lately was in other countries. Even the most comprehensive list of 2023 layoffs that I could find doesn't have Intel on it. I'm not asking this because I think we're safe, I'm asking because I believe we're long overdue a round and it's just a matter of time before another announcement.

We didn’t make big layoff announcements like some other big tech companies

I frankly don't understand the point of keeping costly US sites and employees. HW/FW expertise is mostly in Israel, SW in Ireland/Poland/India, support Costa Rica/Malaysia/India and manufacturing in Asia. US specialty is mostly useless status-collector managers, getting paid several times what they would cost in other countries, even CHIPS act money is not sufficient to justify the expense. I'd expect only top level managers and small marketing/sales teams to remain there in a long run.

Intel is not that significant in US tech anymore, even layoffs here didnt make much news.

I think OPs post is fine, with applicable qualifiers. It makes sense that Intel may not be on any historical lists researched because I am not aware of any corporate actions. Actions I know of the 2018 or 2019 timeframe were BU driven not corporate. As such the likely did not attract the attention (or visibility) to make it onto lists. Agree that a reduction is overdue. 2016 is the last corporate action that I recall.

Are you serious? Intel just finished a huge US layoff this year. Long overdue after a month? Get out of here.
