Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Project Managers for MCP’s

I have only worked on MCP’s at this company and with that said I have only really been in GOM. I have noticed the project managers on these projects are 100% delusional. They truely believe they know what they are talking about even if they have no knowledge. I would love to be a contractor working for them on a home project. Wonder if they are that inept with decision making in their own life. Is the rest of the company like that. Feels like I am watching Idiocracy or our government in action.

Uh-oh. Somebody clued in the vain GOM management about this thread, they directed their high-pots and business partners to down-vote everything here. In a strange way, I guess they're finally "accomplishing something"?

Started with JSM. A lot of those people hung around there until it was anchor time then joined anchor. Don’t forget the son of the guy who ran JSM we need him on anchor so we can pay off our promotions to his daddy

@3lfd, I'm not sure I'd call them 'criminals'. Criminals implies they know what they are doing. GOM management is basically incompetent, their staff inept, their only skill is posing for pictures.

GOM has long been a laughingstock within our company. A BU that criminals are treated like royalty, and conscientious, capable employees with integrity are treated like criminals. It's mind boggling but you have to put the ultimate blame on corporate. When high level managers, as far up as they go in a BU are allowed to walk as millionaires instead of being prosecuted as the criminals that they are and serving prison time, you get what you deserve, and the result is GOM.

GOM projects are fairly basic but this still manage to go sideways all to often. This is part of why most of their PMs never graduate to real projects.

GOM “projects” are simple and usually just consist of some wells, maybe a basic facility and a pipeline. No partner or govt issues, no import, no environmental, no complex taxes, easy subsurface; really no issues at all. They are projects on training wheels.

GOM has been a sinking BU for at least 20 years now. Take a look at the BU's "accomplishments" - faltering shelf production (which led to selling off the shelf), no exploration program whatsoever (which they have continued into the deepwater), continued bungling of the producing and 3P assets handed over to them from DWEP. All while promoting a "friends and family" plan of advancing career managers and ill-equipped high-pots. The only silver lining is that their performance has been so bad, none of them are going to advance any higher in the company.

GOM PMs are not really qualified PMs, they are usually just friends of management who have been around for decades and didn't another place to roost.
