Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Company working against itself

Pretty sad when you here people are being laid off to save costs and we have people being paid to do nothing or worse being paid while they work on the side at another job while getting paid by VZ..they need to get rid of all upper management and start over - OP @7djx+1lD5PVaE

It's hard to understand such self-destructive actions.

“ I work harder than I did in the office “ ok understandable. But when you got hired to make $100k a year they think you would be in the office. They gave you money for your commute and time away from home. Now that workers are refusing to go back to the office they pay might get negotiated. Just saying. Think about what you wish for.

If a company wants people to have a dedicated room to work then they need to pay a stipend for that extra space. Not everyone has an extra room and in this economy getting an extra room that they normally wouldn't otherwise need means paying alot more money to do so. Look at all the money the business is saving in overhead cost including rent, utililites, cleaning crew, maintenance, office supplies etc...

Been with the company for 10 years. Working from home was a blessing. Working in a center were people were loud, wore clothes they should not be wearing and had terrible hygiene was just disgusting. Customers asking if there was a party going on was sad. What needs to happen is to have someone from Verizon do a random home visit. If you do not have a room dedicated to work, you gotta go. Working from home does not mean you are taking care of personal things while on the clock. If you are developing then you gotta go.
I have an office in my home and from 9 am to 5pm I do what I get paid for.

"Now you got employees who want the best for this company."
The best for this company? Budgeting for developing, operating, maintaining, deploying, and selling updated and desirable products or services is what is best for this company. Whether you do that in a button up collared shirt or pajamas doesn't matter.

I can take a dump in the toilet with clothes on or with clothes off. If the cr-p goes into the toilet and can be flushed down, does it really matter if I'm wearing clothes or not? Or do you have to be in there to confirm if I took a dump so you can pat me on the back for flushing?

VZ didn't employ a halfway strategy, it was more like 'Just the tip'.

Went downhill when McAdams sold off assets then brought the rest of Bell Atlantic mobile at the high exchange rate of the British dollar. Then along came Hans.

Verizon didn't even go half-way. VSP and the Infosys transition encouraged people with marketable skills to leave. They reduced headcount by incentivizing their most capable employees to leave.

Verizon went half way. You can either transform entirely which would require eliminating the dead wood and lifers or you can continue being a boomer company and slowly let TMO eat your base away. But you can't go half way.

That is such a boomer mentality. Don’t have to be in the office to be productive homey

RTO, will filter out the good and the bad. The way it’s going now is horrible. Yeah , you do your best work at the house. That party is over. RTO, and put 100% of your attention to the job at hand. The people refusing to come back to the office, lay them off. Now you got employees who want the best for this company.
