Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Amarillo Loyalty office is fed up

I work in the loyalty department in Amarillo. They took away our night differential tours and are removing our Sunday tours (time and a half pay) starting in May. Morale is absolutely horrible. Every month that we finally exceed numbers the next month they raise them and we barely meet. Service reps are counting the days to retire and leverage reps aren't making commission like they used to. All AT&T is focusing on is a stupid call flow call script that makes no damn sense. They send us nothing but cr-p calls all day. We literally are just order takers at this point. Upper management keeps preaching attendance but as long as they want to sc--w us over and "coach" us on call flow they can continue seeing bad attendance and horrible morale in the office. New hires are just counting down the days to hit 1 year to be eligible for FMLA. AT&T you are the problemb

"I don’t understand the attendance issue ; how can one remain employed if not showing up to work. Why doesn’t AT&T just fired them?"

Well, there are a couple of answers ------

There are certain "qualifications" (boxes checked) that, once you get hired, make it almost impossible to be let go and the people with those "qualifications" know that all too well and take complete advantage of their 'status'.

There also are a lot of people only showing up about half of the year but getting paid almost the full years pay due to them knowing exactly how to abuse FMLA and disability.

AND, a lot of people abuse the union protection and should have been let go long ago because they can't or won't (or both) do an adequate job, but they pay union dues so they are protected.

I think the company is FINALLY getting wise and deciding when they are not getting the production from a group that is being paid for they might as well close the entire group. It makes good business sense to everyone that has any sense.

They want you all to get frustrated and leave. Then outsource the work. So sounds like they’re plan is working

When I'm out in the field and I find I need a part, tool, or anything necessary to complete a job, I go to Home Depot and use my Procurement card. I've never been denied usage of that card. What's the problem? You should never have an issue in the field as long as you have you'r Pro card!

Folks what you have been witnessing here at AT&T is being carried out by most technology companies. Common people have fulfilled their purpose to the elites in getting the perpetual machine called automation/AI in motion to further feed their greed and needs. Sorry but your no longer needed in their eyes.. it’s time to reinvent yourself if you at a very young age if your not able to fit into the job for the few.

Stankley say's he's this company's best asset. The rest of you are just the icing on his cake.

Switching to VoIP is just a technology progression, copper plant will be reduced to 50% end of 2025 per leadership. Still be around for a while but is a rapidly shrinking iceberg. Nothing new fiber is the superior product in many ways, it requires less maintenance which affects jobs.

Out in the field, we don't even have supplies to do the repair work on the copper plant. Management is telling us to tell customers to switch to voip

Management is already talking about CO properties being sold off in the next few years and no future for most core techs.

AT&T put itself in a financial mess. With the recession, inflation, bank failures, competition, bloated number of managers, low investor confidence and so on, we are now a house of cards. The removal of night diferencial tours and Sundays is a desperate move to avoid having to cut dividends.
They are cutting everywhere, but no amount of cuts will get AT&T out of the water. It will be another decade before we get any forward movement.

The only movement is their accountants making the AT&T books look good for quarterly results. We all know that this company is crumbling.

The only balance is the 20% cut in pay that the double dippers are getting.

I work in chicago center and its the same deal, just rebid for a new shift cause they decide we close at 6pm, then two weeks later get an email saying they are going to rebid the entire center because we will be no longer open on sundays. They claim its for worklife balance which is a crock because how can we have balance when they change our shift every other month? Havent had a new hire class since January 2022

Seen them close a Dallas office and farm the work out to smaller offices which was different. Director had numerous meetings telling everyone that they wouldn’t continue to put up with 30-40% absentee rate. Some kept saying it wouldn’t happen because the larger locations tend to eat the smaller ones. It happened…

They are setting your office up for closure. Sorry to say... I've seen it a couple of times... the fact that they are minimizing tours (taking away sundays) is HUGE... ALSO, I HAVE literally seen the company SHUT down an entire office due to attendance. Your department is playing a bad game with the company and now it's calling the bluff. They are , sad to say, literally facing your office out, piece by piece.

You think AT&T is capable of integrating AI into their broke, aged systems? Lmao.

Call centers in the US are on the way out anyway. They will send the calls overseas soon and eventually they will be handled by AI in the next give years.

What a joke. You complain when you’re working weekends and nights and they do something to help our work life balance and you still complain. Leave if you don’t like it. I’m surprised that shop is still around, they aren’t a top center.
