It seems like VZ should consider offering a VSP package instead of constantly laying off employees every two weeks. It’s very time consuming, disruptive and affects morale.

Still hopeful they offer a VSP package! I’m sure they would like many to sign up since RIFs are frequent now. Also, it’s a win win for both employees and VZ. Both can plan and train and announce to Wall street that expenses are dropping, which could boost the stock price.
No one is stopping anyone from voluntarily separating. Quit if you don’t like it here. Instead, you all happily collect your paychecks while wasting company time and resources.
Even if they don't offer the traditional benefits of the original VSP, they should provide a mechanism to volunteer with no penalty in order to preserve jobs for those that want to stay. This is what other tech organizations that have had major layoffs are pushing.

No surprise that there are over 2k views on this post suggesting a VSP package. I suppose a lot of people are hoping for just that.
RIFs used to be somewhat performance based. The regional mgt used to meet offsite and stack rack the staff, the sloppy bottoms made the list. Really more of a popularity contest than anything. Now it’s all up to HR and/or outside consultants.
Please stop with what you think is happening as allegations are not the truth.
First severance for laid off people was two weeks of pay times years of service.
The whole Social Media U.S. based VCG was laid off. All of them low tenure and high tenure.
Fact: You can lead and do work avoidance.
Fact: None of us own VZW and can lose our jobs in a blink of an eye.
Give 2 weeks of severance/yr of service with 35 week max vs 3 weeks of severance/yr of service with 60 week max - Many more people took VSP than VZ expected, they won't make that mistake again.

I agree with other poster. VSP ends with best talent leaving. RiF lets mgt get rid of poor performers without PIP.

@teq+1lNTRXiC Lol only way that would be true is if the metrics were not easy to cheese. Been through enough RIFs to lose count. If that were true my a-s would have been gone a long time ago. Cheesing the metrics as we speak. Come get me hatchet man, I want that severance.

We barely have any high performers left. VZ is a great job to hide in the back and as the people on this website like to say “play fiddlesticks”
@teq+1lNTRXiC RIF's are not catching poor performers. We are way past that. They are catching those with the highest salaries regardless of talent, knowledge, or performance. They want high salaries off the books to save the sinking ship, no matter how short-sighted that strategy is in terms of keeping a competent workforce. They decision on who gets RIF'd is made by an outside company and managers have no input. I've seen the sheets that ID those positions eliminated. Not done by individual employee names.
They don't want the top talent leaving. At this stage, RIFs will catch the lowest performers...
