5% NSI again...it is official

The word came out today that NSI will be 5% and that "we will maintain this level for some time and will continue to monitor that it meets our objectives". Objectives eh? whatever happened to "nominally 3%". ExxonMobil leadership flat out lied...full stop.

NRE's should still be protected again (53+) unless PIP'd, as I understand.

Has anyone confirmed if youre 2 times in NI that its a PIP?

Do NI’s also get PIP’d? I was under the impression that only NSI were in danger of losing their jobs, but I seem to remember that NI’s are also placed on PIP’s. If so, what happens if an NI fails a PIP?

In your enthusiasm for the “new economy countries”, usually known as countries who are poor because they can’t get their act together, you forget a fundamental fact: the “brilliant people in lower paid countries”, once they get a degree in their country go on to graduate studies in N America and W Europe, after which they can work anywhere in the world for Western salaries. Only second and third tier graduates stay there and work for peanuts. Even in low cost countries, only third tier graduates are willing to work for a company who has no long term commitments and is going for cheap labor as its only strategy to get out of the hole it’s in.

@3ndd+1lQBPOl5 I don't see anybody older than 65 in this company except the dinosaurs in the management committee and their clowns. I don't even see people older than 60 anywhere at Exxon. Even the number of people in their 50's is close to zero. There are no experienced employees at Exxon anymore. What are you talking about?

As one of a dwindling number of late career tech contributors it's infuriating. In my discipline we turned over (not reduced) 19% of our workforce. I'm tired of backfilling the positions of those who left, training so many new hires, and making up for the experience they lack in the meantime. Then on top of that we get forced to participate in the hunger games where we have to cut coworkers' throats to earn a few more bucks or, for a mandatory 5%, to not have our job threatened. "One team" my ar-e. Sc--w this company. F you Darren.

Isn't it possible in this round of NSI layoffs, we'll see the majority from the 'Leadership' positions?
Eliminating an entire level of management - say only the younger but overpaid Supervisor promotions from the past 5 years - help the bottom line?
Not to mention the morale boost for us grunts.

I’ve been in enough PA/ranking sessions to know that in global organizations, rank lists from all three regions are merged together. Historically, with NA accounting for >50% of the list’s population, preliminary forced ranking required more NA employees in the NSI category because the other regions were under represented-regardless of merit, regardless of contribution. HR would run the demographics at the end of the meeting to assure there were no “biases” of any kind (basically protecting AP from being decimated by NSI).

The point of this response is to say be careful what you wish for. Your precious seat at the table will make you even more susceptible to NSI than you are now. The larger your groups get, the harder it will be to hide behind your “protected” status. It’s simple math, and if you get wrap your mind around it, then maybe we shouldn’t be offshoring as many of those positions as we are.

The 5% NSI is worldwide. In the HC10 it will be much much higher than 5%. I can confirm for sure that at HC the NSI target is 15%. Those jobs are planned to be moved to India in 1Q24. My very strong suggestion is that if you work for Exxon in the USA you should be looking for a new job like right RIGHT now. I can't say this loud enough.

See the other thread. Someone mentioned unfilled roles are allowed to fill PIP. Pretty sure we have 5% of those. If there is any credibility to that, the actual % will be quite small.

Your math is incorrect. Since we are increasing headcount in the new economy countries, headcount reduction in Europe, Canada, and U.S. will be much higher than 3,150. The point of the NSI is to lower total headcount, not just replace lazy overpaid europeans, canadians, and americans with hardworking underpaid brilliant people in lower paid countries. Yes, the budget will be lower even if we replace 1 person in the high cost countries with 2-3 in the lower cost countries, but investors were promised headcount reduction and thats what they'll get, along with dividend increases and stock buybacks. If it doesn't make sense to you, its because you are ignorant of business or just dont want to believe it, still, its going to happen. Its our turn to have a seat at the table.

FYI, Prague is the capital-city of the Czech Republic. Only Budapest is in Hungary.
Apart from this, I agree it won't probably be a ‘flat’ 5% NSI rate across all countries. I have no first-hand experience, but I'm not even sure they need to set targets in the cheap labour cost countries, where turnover is in the magnitude of 15% every year.

63,000 regular employees x 5% = 3150 regular employees in NSI

Since we are continuing to increase staff in lower cost countries such as Bangaluru in India, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Prague and Budapest in Hungary, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Curitiba in Brazil... we will need to selectively target 3150+ NSI's in Houston and Brussels which are part of our HC10 country network (i.e. much higher cost).
