Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

As if we should be happy to have a job at all

This is how my manager behaves, very arrogantly, as if I should be happy to have a job at all. I guess he's no exception? This company will not get better as long as they continue to act like this.

"Literally every single management or non-management Level 2 and above who has direct reports believes they are "Leaders". 99.9% of them are not; nowhere near the dictionary version of what a true leader is"

You're right my friend. It is confusing and misleading. I meant to write "Literally every single exempt Level 2 manager or non-exempt Level 2 manager who has direct reports believes they are 'Leaders'. 99.9% of them are not; nowhere near the dictionary version of what a true leader is". Hope that clears things up a bit. Sorry for any misunderstanding this caused.

I'm a bargained for employee and want nothing more than to be laid off at this point. I'm very tired and wary of the position and AT&T put itself in. Work is very slow, certainly not enough to keep the techs busy for a full day. Some days, there's no work at all yet, management keeps us on the payroll and not quite sure why?

"Stankey please nix my boss LC in the Chicago wireline market"
If that's the "LC" that I think it is then I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels that he's way past his shelf time. This incel does nothing but bend the rules while acting like he's playing within the rules.

This was a very interesting set of statements indeed. Looks like this probably came from a Level "0" (probably union) employee who hasn't a clue of what "management" and "leadership" really are. To be clear, EVERY 2nd level and above employee in the entire company is a salaried "manager" (or Executive - Lvl 5 and above). The only difference is whether you are in a "Supervisory" or "Individual Contributor" position.

"99.9 of them are not "leaders"". Curious as to what data points or research/analysis was performed that produced this conclusion, because it couldn't be further from the truth.

Wow! Sounds like this original poster has quite a bit of growing up to do. Of course you should be grateful you have a job and no one is going to wipe your snotty nose when you have a temper tantrum either.

AT&T is migrating to the cloud and transforming it business to be leaner, faster and agile with more automation been enabled to allow quicker delivery of services. Can see just the directors and senior management been the only ones at AT&T in the future with everything outsourced. Despite all the negativity and the anxiety that goes with 'Am I next on the list' still feel I'm blessed to be in a job and in good health

Everything in the post above is complete bullsh-t. Whoever posted this is ripe for the dull axe of AT&T. They don't even deserve the sharp axe that AT&T could give one to end their career quickly.

Got laid off, got my 6 month severance check, got my confidence back. Let me say that is probably the best thing that has happened to me at AT&T in the 15 plus years I worked at that shithole. If I could slug the last several bosses I've had that would be icing on the cake. I only realized this after I got away from the Deathstar that in those 15 years I had seen more bad management, more inept managers trying to fake it, more pi-s poor leadership that I had in all the other companies I worked for combined.
Literally every single management or non-management Level 2 and above who has direct reports believes they are "Leaders". 99.9% of them are not; nowhere near the dictionary version of what a true leader is. They are nothing but practical jokes pulled on the employees to try to con them into believing they have "leadership". They couldn't manage a child's lemonade stand. In more adult terms they couldn't manage a 2-hole outhouse in an Exlax factory. The worst department at AT&T is HR. The percentage of bad bosses and inept management in HR is far greater than in any other department in the entire company.

I'm not sure what impact was desired by this post but, it's coming off VERY ENTITLED... not much better than the comment you are saying the manager was doing!

We must have the same Manager! Ours thinks he is the only one working. I wish we would all get laid off so he is left doing the work all by himself.

If this OP doesn’t have union cryfry written all over it, I don’t know what does.
Allow me to rewrite this for you.
If this OP, union employee doesn't have a manager (cryfry), you mean crying for their job I don't know when but it will come soon for that "manager".

Get yourself some sleep there. AT&T is tidying up.

I've decided I am riding this pony as far as it will go. After that point, I don't really care. I will go do something else. If it doesn't pay as much, so be it. I refuse to make a job the center of my life.

Middle management is totally in the dark in mid markets. I believe there is a massive blood bath coming for sales roles. The unrealistic quotas were put in place to stack rank and prepare for the largest staff reduction see since coronavirus. Mark my words

As long as directors have a continuously high number of worker bees underneath them, to make them look better to their boss and drop whomever is not happy, they can make their bonus numbers and bloated salary. That's the whole game here folks, there is no plan to get better.
