Ford has about 11,000 salaried employees on the pension plan. Ford has about 28,000 salaried US workers. Guaranteed that in the road to 6,000 US salaried workers that the 11,000 with a pension are pushed out the door first, along with those promoted for diversity virtue signaling.

@iuxc+1lSh1DL7 " can you elaborate why 2023 working environment is worse than 2022?"
Let's just say that I was promised a better work environment in 2023, but was blocked from having that promise fulfilled.

@infj+1lSh1DL7 can you elaborate why 2023 working environment is worse than 2022?

Hoping there'll be VSSP's later this year for those of us who passed on the favorable lump sum payout not realizing how much worse the working environment would become offering us a chance to cut our losses.

No more layoffs in 2023.

All terminations will be handled with PEP.

@3fai+1lSh1DL7 Thank you for you years of service. Your manager and colleagues should have said that when you were laid off. Hope you find better things and success at a new company.

To @3fai

I'm glad you were able to find something at a better salary. From what I'm hearing from others that's the exception. Can I ask what you're type of role you have been in? I'm seeing a lot of IT and software related jobs and those do seem to have good compensation. However, the more traditional automotive engineering positions posted usually show salaries well below what some of us more tenured folks had. Not saying it's impossible, just trying to understand a bit more. By the way, I do agree that we were not respected...I'm just trying to take the high road as much as possible for my own sanity. Thx

At what point do we ask for union representation for salaried engineers like they have at Boeing? Interesting to note that UAW members kept their pensions when Chrysler and GM went bankrupt, but white collar salaried folks got the shaft. If Ford heads the same direction as GM and Chrysler did in 2008, what protection against bankruptcy and pension fund insolvency do we have at F?

@4ruv+1lSh1DL7 While I agree that there are better paid positions out there, many others are below or in the range of the current one at Ford. Yes, an FCG can easily get a better paid position someplace else. However, after certain age or salary bracket, it is not that easy.

Personally, I have found several positions in a similar range, and only 3 were with higher compensation. If I wanted to just change jobs, I could have done it long time ago. My goal is also to move up in salary, and I have other personal restrictions as well. For instance, there are states/cities that I am not willing to relocate there. New York and California are the top of my sh!t list, Even when I could get a higher salary in those, the standards of living are too low and very expensive.

I thought I had a better job in MI, a good opportunity, but the position was canceled. I am expanding my search to southern states, you know, better weather combined with a better job. Cannot take more sh!t from Gretchen neither. I am not sure if there is going to be some MI left after 2026.

Sometimes I am thinking of living abroad (just a dream) just to get out of this nightmare we have now in this country. The 10% most right and left wing are dominating the politics and news. Most people are actually center left-right, and we have lost our voices. SMH.

@3fai+1lSh1DL7 not a comparable salary? You must be doing something wrong. I found several opportunities that paid quite a lot more. Took one that paid more.

The only area I'll give to Ford is what they charge for health insurance. Other companies can't compete there. But other than that everything else was an upgrade.

My advice? Keep looking even after getting another job. They are out there even if the job market isn't as good as it was 7 months ago.

As far as integrity, I don't see it as a lack of integrity to point out how current management treated us. It was awful. Even the 10 minute "goodbye" meeting was impersonal and insulting. No "thanks for the years is service", years by the way that we're celebrated up to that point. And to point out that the company gave lip service to "we are family". Hmmm, family kicks family members out even when they are profitable?

No the lack of integrity was all on the company's part. They don't deserve my business or patronage ever again. I'll buy any make over a Ford from this point forward. And I'll suggest all my friends and family do the same.

Certainly wishing the best for those still employed at Ford, and honestly for the company because it doesn't do me any good to wish ill will. Still hard sometimes to accept that I (and 3,000 of us) we're just unceremoniously let go. Sometimes its even tempting to vent in a very negative way, but I vowed to maintain my integrity. I know many of you have said (and correctly) that it's not a reflection on us or who we are. You don't suddenly wake up one morning and 3,000 employees are suddenly not contributing. However, you do ( or at least I did) develop an identity after being with only one company your entire career. When talking about Ford, I still often slip and say "we" like I'm still part of the team. Yes, I've found other employment, not as interesting and Certainly not comparable salary, but I think the hardest part is just being kicked to the curb the way we were.
I'm not trying to say anything mean or disrespectful here, but it's still hard 7 months later.

I never, even early in my career before getting closer to pension eligibility considered jumping to other companies...it was always my desire to work for the blue oval. Well, that's certainly done and not the way I planned, but wanted to see how others are doing both with the lack of reciprocal loyalty and with finding other opportunities.

Going luck everyone, and hope others are not soon in the same position.

I work in Model e. No layoffs that anyone here has heard of. Stop with the misinformation. Leadership would tell us first.

I am the OP.

Turns out the folks reaching out were laid off earlier this month. And worked for Ford Credit. Was there a layoff earlier this month that flew under the radar?

I was SIRP’d April 2022 - thought it was the worst feeling in the world.

Forward to March, 2023 - working two full time jobs and making more than twice I ever did at Ford. Days are busy, but I am happier and less stressed than the last 3 years because I don’t fear losing my job anymore.

Moral of the story - not only will you survive, it is quite possible you will thrive like never before.
Ford was and is in actuality a very limiting place; don’t limit yourself anymore.

Best of luck to everyone!!

Good luck all!

I was let go August 2022 so I know what it feels like. If it happens, know that you'll move past it to better things. But in spite of all the anger and negativity I read here on this site, I sincerely wish the best for the current Ford employees and I hope management can turn things around for the better. Wishful thinking? Yeah I know.... no need to flame me.
