Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Planning, the Good and the Bad

This round of layoffs in February was welcoming for some and devastating for others.
Those that had time in and were ready to retire this was a blessing in disguise if they planned for this day and worked to pay down debt so they could survive the departure maybe a few years early.

Some had the time in however did not plan and had the attitude of "I have more time" and then they were knocked off their feet.

Some were young and the most unfortunate of all and maybe planned well however did not have the time to accumulate time and personal financial safety. For no fault of theirs they were severely delt a blow by Dell. insurance that was paid for from our last paychecks by the way runs out for most on April 11. having a family to support with health care and a roof over their head is a living nightmare for some.

They targeted people who had a prior medical condition. Dell is morally & ethically challenged.

Exactly and EMC used to offer that. Here it was based on who can I get that pushed back the most or who may not be in the club. If you look who was let go you will see the resistance but many good workers. My 2 cents.

partly why they need a voluntary policy. Some that were let go may have been saved by the ones that wish they got it. I know that doesn't quite work for entire groups that were let go, but for a manager that has to make a choice between employee a or employee b, it would be nice to know if one of those would not have mind being let go.
