Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The push for RTO...

Apparently, they are planning to get folks back onsite (at least in RA4).

Why this sudden need for in person meetings? If this was truly a data driven decision, they would look at the track record of execution until 2019 and then take the delta of the slope to what we have accomplished since 2019 till now.

In 2019, we were on the nth revision of 14 nm(14nm++++++?) and struggling to yield 10 nm in any meaningful quantities.

Since 2019, we have successfully TDed and ramped 4 nodes upto production. All of which has been accomplished remotely (for the most part except for the vendor FSEs and techs in the fab).

So you want to regress back to an older way of doing things (when we weren't executing with the proper cadence) instead of trying to figure out how to keep the current track growing by meaningfully collaborating in an increasingly digital workspace?

Typical backwards thinking Intel management.

Or is this another move by an insidious Machiavellian management who want to steer the company towards an anti-GPTW model that will increase attrition by creating a hellscape that no one wants to belong to, thereby saving INTC CPM money in the long run?

This is going to backfire as usual. The ones who will leave are the ones who have options outside and competent enough to keep this place running. If all the competent people leave, you will be left with a desperate low skilled workforce who have no other options but clinging onto this company like a parasite. Good luck with your stupid decisions.

It’s hard to RTO when they’ve turned the heat off for everything but the cafe. Sorry but I’m not going to work in an ice box to take Teams calls from a shared cube.

I am in JF5, and still there is no need to go back to office.
Dont know why there is a need in RA4.

Multiple daily in person passdowns are the most useful time I've ever had as the job.

Drive into the office to sit in Teams meetings with headset on all day.

That's the last straw for me. If I have to work more than 1-hour a day AND come back to the office I am done.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

The only folks that want back in the office are either btthrt fab workers or sychophants that like to grease up the boss because their technical/engineering skills are lacking and they need to compensate. Make no mistake, this is management being d!cks, because they can. I won't be going back in..but I still have some cards to play.

If OP is minutes away from the campus, why the resistance to back to office with the excuses? Is OP live in a state to avoid OR taxes?

Vote with your feet, if you aren't happy with the direction of the company then walk out the door. The job market is still good for qualified people. It is bad for your well being to sit around and bi--h all day. Find a job that better suits you. All the time you spend bi--hing now can be applied to something that improves your life when you find a job that satisfies you.

Same plan over here. Fully remote applications need to be OKd by high level management, no longer your line manager

I've heard a rule of 1/month coming in for us. Glad I applied to full remote before this all started

Everything from toilet paper to electricity to consumable costs are going to go up in terms of just maintaining a functional infrastructure.

Isn't INTC supposed to be Remote/Hybrid first?

F2F is fine with me, I get more time to faff around doing nothing between meetings, walking in the cafeteria etc. These companies don't realize that they get way more out of their employees remoting in because I see some of these suckers online all the time.

If you think you can just smoke weed in your PJs and show up to a meeting where you are expected to show data/results, clearly you are a fab wrench monkey who doesn't know anything about how innovation in tech works. Sure, we need your skills to maintain those machines, but data extraction and analysis from a hundred different tools from around the world? Gonna make your little head spin, fab monkey. Now, go and turn the wrench, sweetie. Makes you wish you had paid a little bit more attention in school, doesn't it?

Well, the shuttle is grounded because we DON’T need F2F. Which one is it? We need In person, or we don’t need in person?

Whaaaa, whaaa. Stop whining like a baby and get back to work. Everybody knows companies are less productive with people working from home. The lib companies made it seem like they were more productive and they were making more money hand-over-fist but the truth was that the pandemic caused a short-term shift while at the same time the government was printing money. That's no longer the case, and now we're all paying the price. You need to either STFU or volunteer for CPM.
