Right now we have no power to negotiate for a better xom. All we can do is leave. For some that's very painful but I'm sure many would prefer to remain happily employed.
Top items on my list:
- Much higher wfh % for roles that can be remote. This benefits everyone including company, employees, city traffic, and the planet. Make it part of a green initiative.
- More fair salary distribution. Executives make too much relative to the rest of us. It's ridiculous and shameful.
- Performance reviews on an absolute basis using fixed expectations of your assignment, not the moving goalposts of relative ranking. No more mandatory rank distributions or disguising layoffs as PIPs.
- Protections for 401k and other benefits. I don't know about you but freezing the 401k without any make up contribution is pretty galling when we've been making record profits. It was galling in the first place when they chose rich investors over their employees retirement.
- Protection for pension contributions. Xom can always phase the pension out for new employees. But once you've promised someone a retirement, you can't run to the PBGC to pay your employees and retirees pennies on the dollar because you underfunded the pension in the company's declining years like so many other companies have.
