Rolling Ford Billboards?

Can’t ever see a Ford rolling billboard in my garage. Only bright spot is with all the recalls, looks like many new Fords will be stuck in garages or dealerships waiting for repairs.

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a system displaying ads and images on windows that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.

The patent was filed on January 6th, 2020, published on April 4th, 2023, and assigned serial number 11618242.

The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed multiple patents outlining ideas for displaying ads or images in vehicles over the past several months, including one for a holographic projection system, billboard interfaces for vehicle displays, and a vehicle window projection system. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for what it calls an “automotive glass display” that could be used to project images and advertisements on the windows of future Ford vehicles.

Obviously, the mere thought of being bombarded with more advertisements won’t settle well with most consumers, though as Ford points out in the patent filing, vehicles are being used more and more for those purposes these days, whether it be via vinyl wraps or screens that project ads to nearby pedestrians or motorists. Thus, the automaker is looking to take advantage of that by coming up with a new way to turn vehicles into rolling billboards.

That’s accomplished by using a projector and a glass panel with darkened material applied to it, creating the perfect venue for images, whether they be ones that contain important information like weather events or just old fashioned ads. There are obviously some viable ways this could be used, aside from pure advertisements, but we imagine that its intended use is for commercial vehicles where fleets might want to advertise their business – or, perhaps even a more visible way for ride share drivers to display their company of choice. Regardless of intent, it’s clear that this is an area Ford intends to explore – in more ways than one.

I would consider The use of my vehicle for displaying Ford ads as a subscription based service.

My fee for Ford using my vehicle as a billboard will be $100 per minute.

Ford’s lack of a response to this posting will indicate their acceptance of these terms.

The first lawsuit regarding death or injury caused by ‘driver distraction’ in the other vehicles, gawking at the ads on windows of Ford vehicles with this feature, are going to ki-l this featurized revenue source pretty quickly. Lawyers gonna love it.

Wow ... a new low. This is even worse than so many gas stations now having the little screens blaring their culturally sickening ads. Filling up the other day I wanted to put the gas nozzle right through the stupid screen, douse it with gas and then light it up, but didn't want to harm my awesome 2007 ICE vehicle so restrained myself ! :)

Rolling visual pollution. Further unnecessary intrusion of tech into our life.
Tech for the sake of tech.

So my question is, if the billboard function does not work, will the ICE engine or EV power train prevent you from using the vehicle?

National hockey league players have advertising decals on their helmets. Toronto maple leafs have Tiktok advertising decals on their helmets. So Ford could advertise tiktok on vehicles.

Maybe Tesla or Gm can buy adspace on Ford vehicles?

Does the vehicle owner have a choice in which ads get shown? Can I offer up my vehicle adspace for local classified ads?

Wait what? That is insane! As municipalities and states pass ordinances and laws against establishments having signs that change/display videos as they are know to distract drivers and cause accidents — Ford wants to create rolling adverts and distract drivers?

Years back there was a clever sot who created a product that allowed the driver to type a message to be displayed across the back their car back window for others to read. As you can imagine some cases of road rage ensued. That product was outlawed in several states as an attractive nuisance.
