Retirees who were brought back

I understand why this company is trying to return people with expertise, but I don't understand people who decide to return. I wonder how many people total have actually done it.
Apart from financial motivation, I can't think of any other reasons why someone would consider returning. That said, what would be the cons of returning here after retirement?

I know some groups bring back retirees as a placeholder or insurance policy to keep the slot open as long as they can to protect their own.

Company needs to run a check on former employees who were let go / surplused / lowest ranked and now they are back as contractors. No one in HR paying attention. 2 separate entities. We have some good employees back making more than they did as employees and we have some poor performing former employees back working and no one knows / cares.

I retired a year and a half ago from engineering. There isn’t enough money in the world to bring me back. I do not miss the BS with AT&T’s unrealistic expectations and guidelines. I am enjoying a stress free life and my headaches and anxiety issues are gone. I have been contacted by design contractors, area manager and one director and my answer is still no and will not change. I have 2 more years until I’m 65 but I would rather pay for my health insurance instead of return to AT&T! I am glad I left when I did!

This has nothing to do the union. Corruption runs deep in mgt. Pretty obvious when you see a whole team created with people that have been on the take for years.

We was told by our boss that we was irreplaceable when we went and retired. A month later we was back workin again. Call it double dipping if you want, but we are getting rich quick. It's almost like we never even retired. I love this place.

The Home Depot statement tells you a lot about the people that work at this company. Pretty sad!

It's financial. All fun and games when you get let go, until you can only pick up a $15 an hour job at the local Home Depot selling appliances. if you go from making $150K a year to making $30K a year, it takes you 5 times longer to reach your retirement goal, if you ever do.

The folks in Illinois should be able to give you some insight. It’s always about money and not just what the company pays them.
