Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Licensing the technology from CATL (including technical expertise)

Ford said it will collaborate with a Chinese supplier on a new $3.5 billion battery plant for electric vehicles in Michigan, despite ongoing tensions between the U.S. and China.
Ford will own the new facility through a wholly owned subsidiary instead of operating it as a joint venture with CATL, which several automakers have done with non-China partners in the U.S.
The plant is expected to open in 2026 and employ about 2,500 people, according to the Detroit automaker.

The glass house is a ship of fools, setting up JVs and manufacturing facilities in totolitarian and economically under performing countries. Nothing has been learned over the past 100 years.

History never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme. And this sounds similar to the failed Tech JVs with ZF on CVTs and Getrag for DPS6.

If we jointly build batteries like we build cars, anticipate unplanned thermal events. Maybe our next platform should be called Pinto v. 2.0

History is damned to repeat itself to those who do not study it. Kinda funny as I thought BF studied history at his left coast alma mater of Princeton. The similarities are striking, HF1 and Adolph were pals, now BF chumming it up with the PRC. And we are an “American” company. Yeah ok….

It bothers me that our CEO is bragging that Ford needs the cheapest batteries in the industry.

Maybe Ford should cobrand with Harbor Freight. We'll get the job done but don't expect to pass the product to be around for your kids
