Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

They are hiring for roles that they laid off

What is HW doing? This doesn't make sense. The company is a mess.

We rehire you so we can get rid of it later on. They play these games over and over. What’s funny is you guys just keep coming back. You must really want to move up to the company or you really love your Kool-Aid.

I think you stay at Honeywell. Because you don’t have to do anything and you’ll be lazy. The last person got promoted at my division. Stated they were happy moving upstairs so they wouldn’t have to do anything. This proves my point.

If you wander the halls, take lots of smoke breaks, become a heart monitor, don’t work, show up whenever you want, tardy, all the time, and become the biggest BS her of all time. You’re most likely will get promoted.

This is a game. We lay off. Then we call you back.
Normal people with degrees wouldn't put up with this. Luckily for us we hire none degree people.

They're so eager to get promoted and move up in the company. We lay off as many times as we want. You'll just keep coming back.

Yes! You proved degrees I needed. Somebody with a degree would be smart enough not to play these games.

You're not smart enough to run an outhouse. Why would you be smart enough to find a new job.

I want my experience. I want to get promoted and move through. The company. Lay me off and RIF me as many times as you want. I'll just keep coming back.

Director in HBT asked to “retire”. Early 60s, no performance issues. Replacement been groomed for last 6 months by Sr Leadership. Day the Director leaves, role is posted and replacement slides into the role. Exact job responsibilities. Happens more than you think.

It's illegal. If you do a layoff, you cannot hire back that position for a particular amount of time. Slightly changing the description is illegal. Honeywell laid off about 3,000 employees in mid 2020. The data they provided clearly demonstrated age discrimination after age 51. They are sly by spreading it around to prevent a class action suit.

I think that if you read the job postings, you will see that Honeywell has placed extreme competency requirements in the job description and a correspondingly low salary. Honeywell will use this to provide evidence of being unable to hire US residents and thus must have more H1B visas. Industry has been doing this since the '90s. Cheaper workers mean more profits for the executives!

After we were layed off the Director told one of our remaining colleagues they would rehire all the positions again in June.

HR in Honeywell is nothing more than an internal police department.

They are posting various fake hiring offers too, but when you contact them, they won't hire you. It is method to fake image of how the company is performing. We had several open positions for years, but all "frozen". At one point they even hired a guy and then just kept him frozen for few months with promises about how the process will continue, then telling him, that unfortunately it was cancelled.

They cover themselves by routinely putting people on the elbow

Don’t forget to keep a written ( handwritten) record of all the company resources you use like project folders and tools. Write down the IT request for access tickets. These can be pulled by subpoena to demonstrate that the new person did resume your duties.
Be careful about stealing company records of course. Handwritten notes and dates in your personal diary to guide subpoena is a good plan.

I am related to a lawyer and we have discussed age discrimination lawsuits on numerous occasions over wh----y and cigars. An age discrimination lawsuit is pretty much a slam dunk if the person laid off has a good-excellent job performance, is over 50, is replaced by a younger lower paid person, and the duties are exactly the same. Sometimes companies will change the job title, but if the duties don't change, then it is easier. I really don't expect Honeywell to fall into this trap given the size of their legal department. Unless their legal department has suffered the same as the rest of us with older experienced lawyers being let go?
As the previous poster has said, if you are over 50, print emails, anything that describes your duties, and then any job postings that indicate your replacement. An age discrimination lawsuit may get you your severance as a court award and thus not subject to income tax.
I am not shilling for lawyers. I'm just related to a good one who wants to do good.

Nice! My retirement plan is approaching. Rehiring after a layoff is fraught with legal peril. Get your notebooks out and keep good (paper) records. Print all the emails and job notices and keep nicely in a file.
Then get your laid off friends to reapply for those jobs (and get rejected)

I meant you ARE safe if you’re a director and above. Honeywell is super, super top heavy. Lots and lots of high level people- very few worker bees.

We laid off 2 people on my team, immediately (we are talking less than 2 weeks after my experienced team members were let go) posted their jobs for rehire, only at a lower level title wise. So they’re absolutely doing this. Based on what I see? No one is safe. Particularly if you’re over 50 or a director and above.

We hired youngsters knowing full well they would dumped less than 12 months down the line for the exact reason you have said, to legal smokecreen the pushout of higher paid seniors.

It's the old shell game. Lay off the senior team members (higher $), and then replace them 3-6 months down the road with junior team members (lower $).

I have also seen new hires brought in to level load the RIF list so its not to heavy with senior members.

HR here, I know the games.

Ugh.
