Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T is a dying company

At one time I had hope that the sinking would stop, but now it has become clear to me that this is a dying company. At the same time, I'm wondering which of the many reasons contributed to that the most.

the last post is full of bs and just giving excuses for a company that is mismanaged and dying, they just do creative financing to make it look like it isn't.

The reason ATT over hires is because it still is managed with the old Bell mentality and that's essentially a monopoly back in its day. So, yes it did hire more employees than it really needed, but who really cared about the bottom line at that time. Now, it's an issue and the company has to answer to stock holders and other investors. There are the balance sheets and income statements that management is accountable to as well. The problem is, T management still has that old utility Bell mentality which is why new management is needed to give this company a major shakeup that's very badly needed before it really does go by way of Enron!

“A company laying off people isn’t exactly doing well”…..d-mbest statement yet. Companies over hire all the time and cutback during poor economic conditions. They also layoff people when parts of the business are being eliminated such as wireline. Go ahead go work at Verizon or T Mobile..veritable sh-t shows over there"

d-mbest statement there is - not every company over hires. there is a world outside of phone companies that pay better than any phone company doing the same thing.

The money laundering of Randall the Vandal and friends has had a detrimental effect on At&t. But, it's never been inept leadership, it's always been crashing by design. Plan accordingly.

T has always had a dying component - the copper plant. Anyone coming to T should have known that.

Cellular isn't dying. The other side, the terrestrial landline side - it is going to go to a pure fiber data play (including things like Enterprise VoIP). The rest will whittle away.

What will continue to erode revenue
at T…..
Wireless home broadband
Starlink satellite
Cable companies
All of which will cut into Ts slice of the pie.

Phone service is dead, tv service is not a money maker, no innovation at T and poor mgmt is our recipe for continual decline.

We’re 3rd in wireless & the cable tv & independent isp fiber providers are kickin our @ss right out the door. They’re pulling fiber to BFE & we don’t have it 2 blocks from the CO.

“a company laying people off isn't exactly doing well.”

This commenter still paying $9.99/mo. for AT&T Navigator even though Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze are free.

Probably paying for $3/mo. for old AOL email address for 30 years.

Cut the cord, cut the fat, grow the company!

It's not dying when a company reducing headcount within those business units that are in decline or there is a need to reduce based on capital allocation. When a company generates $120B in revenue and commits to reinvesting $9.2B in network improvements, not dying. You always have to be in a portion of the business that is growing, Mobility & Fiber are the only 2 growth business units.

If you had a business and one of the departments had a sunsetting product or wasn't needed anymore would you just keep them on out of the kindness of your heart?

Some departments are dying and some departments are flourishing. AT&T is going to be around for a good time longer... Your interpretation appears to be based on sour grapes rather than truth.

"The rumors of T’s death have been greatly exaggerated.

From the 10K annual report: As of December 31, 2022, we served 217 million Mobility subscribers, including 85 million postpaid (70 million phone), 19 million prepaid, 6 million reseller and 107 million connected devices.

That’s just mobility. Cool your jets."

yep they were dying when they bought dtv and it just got worse.

too late for mobile and fiber. other companies are beating because they were busy buying other companies to destroy them I guess. buy low sell high.

a lot of better fiber companies out there now. why would anybody subject themselves to their billing practices.

Actually not it’s not. The growth and revenue in mobility and fiber are very goodZ its matter of reducing debt and ridding dead weight .
