Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Why don’t you like GK of SPS?

I was offered a promo in SPS and don’t know what to do. My peers are all one foot out the door but they are afraid to say anything other than its bad. But what does that mean? The business is bad? Morale is bad? Leadership is bad? What does bad mean. Do you get yelled at? Thrown under the bus? Or is it just grueling? I have had so many terrible jobs that its hard for me to gauge what bad is at this point. I can deal with long hours or frustrating business, but I cannot deal with drama or personality issues. Do I take the promotion and use it to get a better job elsewhere? Or is sps the tortured machine everyone says it is?

SPS is being setup to fail, most of the GM's being hired have no knowledge of SPS products. They do check the DEI box, which is the opposite of what GK did at PMT AM where strong performers were quickly promoted. Looking likely SPS will be sold

@2smm+1lemaXvu I agree 100%. We have let the product portfolios die on purpose too. It will be an easy takeover for the buyer. Not much in the queue or in process NPI-wise. Its a real shame.

What is happening in SPS is not what is done to revive or build a business.
What is happening is identical to preparation for liquidation.
Highly likely GK has been mandated to package up SPS.

GK is the hatchet man. Only reason he has risen up to where he is - he’s willing to drop the axe.

Be very careful. You could be next at any time.

@OP
I can't comment on SPS being a the tortured machine, but, the company that I used to work for, it definitely is. We, as engineers, used to be able to make decisions to satisfy customer expectations as we see fit, provided that that cost didn't blow the job out of the water so to speak of course. . We could spend money or efforts to meet customer expectations and thus insure future projects and spending. Now, it seems that Honeywell wants customer's to know that we will charge them extravagantly going forward. I miss working for smaller company that allowed engineers to make decisions. Honeywell will never be able to compete with smaller companies, partly due to their legal department.

Take the promotion and deal with it. Life is going to be a challenge but beef up your resume.

Take the promo to elevate your title which will give you a better opportunity whilst job hunting. Job hunt NOW do not entertain having a career in SPS, at its current rate of decline it will be broken up within 2 years. FACT. If you have a modicum of intelligence or integrity you would not remain at Honeywell full stop.

To be fair GK inherited a mess of a toxic culture created by JW. SPS had rapid growth based on acquiring healthy growing business, then adopted HOS as a cure all, but in reality was outsourcing key functions to COE in low cost regions or H1B visas. Ironically most all businesses that compete with SPS has increased share and experienced organic growth. HON postures they are the smarted person in the room, and they are at enhancing compensation to the executives that leave a shambles of the healthy businesses they destroyed.

I have to ask, would you be replacing someone that was more recently riffed? Maybe something to keep in mind if so

My experience seems to mimic many others I have read on here… top performer within my team, promoted quickly & often (due to my managers, etc. choosing to leave) - thought I was in a good place, only to be blindsided with a layoff I seriously did not see coming - but my newer leaderships’ jobs were spared, as well as most of my subordinates. I would be weary of any promotion; unfortunately it puts a huge target on your back (and not even a normal competitive type one, a freakishly ridiculous one, since so many newbies are hired in above existing employees) - but as long as you are that ‘yes person’ always, you might be okay

A promo in SPS is an attempt to place you rather than lay you off.

GKoustafas is from PMT and gets paid to cut people, plane and simple. If you fu-k up, he will place all blame on you.

But you work at Honeywell and know that

White Goodman from Dodgeball - brilliant

How about Harry Lime played by Joe Pesci in Home Alone

Anyone got anything else to help describe our laughable loser, serial harasser GK?

It seems to me that once one makes it to an elevated level within Honeywell, job security increases, as does stress. The job security part may come from those above not wanting to admit a mistake. Upper management can never admit missteps and would rather blame the rank and file for poor performance and then lay off those. I'd say, take the promotion, deal with the stress, be a "yes" person, and pray for something better. Also, keep your resume updated. One thing about Honeywell, is that it always gets worse before it gets worse.

SPS has a good chance of being divested. Not necessarily a bad thing for all individuals but you never know until you look back.

If it is a good growth opportunity you may want to consider it. But with all RIFS SPS has had don't expect a lot of, if any, support.

It just seems that so many teams have been decimated that the question is how do you get anything done?
