Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Why is Farley just now seeing issues that existed before?

We've been reading about how Farley plans to fix problems, for example, he only recently discovered that Ford has 25% more engineers doing the same work as rivals. Why is he only now seeing this? What has he been doing up until now?

This reminds me of Captain Renault's line in Casablanca: I'm shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here.

Oh everyone knows JF is full of it. At least BF has enough common sense, leadership and good grace not to trash his employee (JF) publicly. JF however casually throws blame and excuses around.

JF knew about quality issues , launch issues and staffing issues BEFORE he took CEO job. Before he was CEO he was collecting evidence and backstabbing Joe H with it, claiming if he were in charge none of these problems would exist. (We all observed the behavior). News flash, ALL of the issues magnified under JF leadership. They did not suddenly reappear. Of course the “sudden reappearance” story gives JF someone to blame and fire - the quality czar.

Shame on BF for not seeing thru JF and JH. Nearly all of the employees could see thru the. Too bad BF doesn’t have a Warren Buffet/Charlie Munger type counsel to help him pick leaders.

Anyone see the article in today's AN? When the Ford family has to publicly defend their CEO multiple times, you know it's game over for Mr. Farley.

@2amz+1lfadQdg This is the same leadership team that has constantly talked about us losing 2 billion instead of pointing out the company had a solid result, we just lost a bunch of money in Rivian/ArgoAI.

Yes. When failing, every good leader blames their people…….said no one ever. Love how he acts like he just joined the company yesterday and figured out we have too many engineers and too much wiring in the Mach E. He says these things again and again IN PUBLIC. What a clown. Loves to blame engineering because he’s not an engineer and has a chip on his shoulder about it the size of Alaska.

Its hard to believe, but this guy is worse than Furniture boy. 3,4 years ago we were hoping that he would get canned because the next guy is going to be better, and now look where we are. Its the old "be carful what you wish for because you might just get it" saying. Now the question becomes, who is next up to bat? The CEO of Disney? Some VP from Google? An up and comer from Ebay? Billy might pick his kids' nanny or the guy who tends to his private wine collection. It couldnt get any worse..... or could it? Would Billy take the reigns again? I bet Mulally is sitting in Seattle, laughing his @ss off while he is polishing his Lexus.

The better question is will he get to the root cause of why we need 25% more people to accomplish the same work? Or will he just do another round of cuts without addressing the causes?

Please. I seriously doubt that Jim Farley, Bill Ford, or Doug Field has any time to spare to read this forum or other mainly complainer posts.

They are busy running the company and deciding on any fine tuning of the company transformation to full electrified mobility.

It doesn't surprise me. The amount of stuff the working level sees that never makes it above LL5 level is staggering. I'm sure there are LL2s and LL3s protecting their silos by hiding the headcount.

When you have your head in the sand you have a very small perspective.

Reminds me of the Wizard of Oz saying “don’t look behind the curtain.”

How does he know they are doing the same work? Management doesn't take a look at all processes and find out whether the company is generating 25%+ unnecessary work which competitors don't have. How many meetings, and PowerPoints do D&R's have to support? How many non-value added studio and program investigations do these same teams support? It's easy to blame the workforce rather than look at underlying issues.
