OC6 Incident another "Black Eye" for Intel

This is yet another in a line of 'bad news' stories about Intel in the last couple of months. This story is a terrible tragedy, but once the grieving is over, hard questions will be asked on how this was allowed to happen inside Intel's facility. Where was security? How did the perpetrator manage to smuggle in a kn--e, a hatchet, and a baseball bat in a bag undetected? Furthermore where was HR and Legal in allowing the hiring of someone (the perpetrator) who had a prior felony on his record for as--ult with a deadly we-pon? I thought Intel had a "Zero Tolerance" hiring policy for such things as most larger companies do. Someone's life was needlessly lost because of these oversights by the company.

More abs more people will go postal. Stress,, lies told to them and threat of more layoffs into a recession will drive people past the break of point

To be fair, it’s normal that details don’t come out after a mu---r investigation. Probably under police order to be quiet.

@1aqd. However frustrating it is to employees, the lack of details and transparency on what happened shouldn't be surprising. Intel is very likely "circling the wagons" to protect the company from the legal fallout given what is known so far.

I left the site when the police were driving in. Zero information from Intel, sweeping under the carpet... I've heard more information from my co-workers, nothing in the Internal communication. An hour after the tragic event that happened in the cafeteria, they announced that it was safe to go back to the fab. This Monday one of the big VP's announced that he is happy to celebrate Engineering week... Where is the respect to the victims of this event? How come we are moving on so fast? plus, this is mixed with relocation of 650 Chandler employees to New Mexico. This week they are providing the relocation packages information. Let's see what the offer is...

Will they fire the protected class now?

@1hdy+1lh8tfge Agreed. Those core values are only lip service and many middle managers are cut from that cloth.

Case in point: I watched a colleague get harassed and intimidated (yes, I spoke up and went to HR) and she begged for help from management. They did nothing. HR did nothing. The final outcome? She got RIFed.
If Intel doesn’t want to d-e, they sure as h-ll want to get sued

If you all remember nothing else, remember all the preaching upper management has done to prove they are being "truthful and transparent".

How they have handled this is anything but.

Someone got beat to death with a baseball bat and the company’s one-email response was “…this is a rare occurrence…avoid the OC6 cafeteria”.

Don’t stand there and try to convince seeing-folk that the company who laid off its staff as a holiday thank you, rather than admitting it isn’t a dividend-worthy company anymore, gives a d@mn about its employees.

Chandler fired an engineering manager for having a USB cable noose with a bunny person hanging from it to so don't tell me Intel wasn't interested in keeping employees safe!

If evidence show that Simmons was hired for political reasons, Intel could end up paying hundreds of millions.

It was absolutely planned and as easy to execute as it was to imagine.

Was there infidelity? Racism? Bullying? Not right way for Simmons to handle it, but you don’t beat someone’s brains out with a baseball bat because he called you stupid.

People keep speaking of "mental illness". This is not mental illness, this is pure rage and hatred.

As for how did he get the items in?
Kn--e - no idea to the size, but several carry them everyday
Hatchet - easily in the backpack
Bat - no one would think twice about this.

Now, before everyone gets up in arms, next time you are in a engineering lab take a mosey over to the lab tool box and tell me what you see. I see sharp pointy things, hammers, knives and all other manners of potential we-pons

How do you fix this? Easy. Put the focus back on the person and not on the tools. Deal with the people who are having issues, don't make excuses for them. Hold folks accountable for their actions.

Black eye? This is a dying company sitting on a tons of empty building with a thousands of enraged, unhinged employees.

Turning Intel into a modern day, real-life gladiator competition is the only way to save the company. That it would be overweight tech employees would only add to the hilarity.

I have a hard time believing that this was out of the blue and no one knew there was an issue between the two people. I know for a fact the HR gas ignored complaints in the past including bullying, belittling and laying hands on subordinates for PC reasons.

Was the hiring of Simmons with a criminal record a mere accident, or part of some program?

The increase in crime is the result of social anxiety. Layoff, pay cut, inflation, open theft, car windows being routinely broken, etc. have impact on people's mind.

@uta+1lh8tfge -- it's highly unlikely that Intel is completely free of culpability in the matter.

“The real hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal. Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives, that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does. They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness. These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted.”

This is not Intel's fault. When you become an adult you are responsible for your own actions.

This is the worst sign of problems at Intel yet to happen.

This is a situation that Intel better take as a serious warning sign of problems in the workforce. This is a sign of problems that a band-aid solution won't fix. With 130K blue badge employees and probably even more green badge contractors and support staff your talking about a quarter million people who are routinely treated badly. I am not a psychologist but with constant layoffs, unexpected pay and benefits cuts plus more layoffs and who knows what else looming there could easily be more people simmering just below the boiling point.
