Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Got Billed for Life Insurance

My last day was 12/30. On Friday 2/17 I got a bill from VZN payroll for Life insurance from January-March 2023. Needless to say it isn’t getting paid.

So you lay us off, the tax man takes a huge cut of our severance and now you want me to pay for something I dont have because I dont work there?

The standard severance [package provides you with 1X your salary as coverage, paid for by VZ. However, anything more than that is on your dime! The 1X coverage will remain in place for whatever your package covered - ie: the number of weeks eligible.

@2zum+1lhUTegC was the payment close to the group rates you were paying while employed or crazy high. Overall that's a good perk to have once laid off. Not many companies let you keep anything.

To clarify, the invoice was for Jan-March for 6x times salary coverage for me and x amount for my wife. It was not a tax bill. HR confirmed life is not part of the COBRA pkg

Life insurance is one of those benefits that you can keep after layoffs and just the non group premium. That's usually a pretty good deal, unless you already had it outside VZ. Maybe that's what it is. I would recommend keeping it if you have no other life insurance and have some health issues, otherwise you have to go through all the medical cr&p. Was it a premium payment or something else. Curious to know if it's close $$$ to the group rates.

Yes good luck not paying your taxes. That always works out well.

It is due to the greatness of paying taxes.

You get VZ benefits during your severance period, if Life Insurance was part of those severance benefits & they are taxable it means you owe taxes on that benefit. It may look like a VZ bill you're choosing not to pay but appears as though it's a bill from Uncle Sam.
